Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

At the start of the summer I made a few attempts to get a half decent white background portrait. The results needed work! :D But I did get some fantastic help from people here.

Today was the first time since that I’ve had the chance to go back and revisit this project. The reason being that I really want to get a few portraits done for my wife - I know that she’d be delighted to have half decent photographs of the boys.

So here is what I took today - please be brutal and point out any flaws - everything helps.

I love the photos themselves, well done however you are still quite bright and colour balance seems off. Did you get your monitor sorted? Looks like this is the only real issue for you now!

Thanks again smelltheglove - the "pale" colour comes from my processing, I was trying something with the saturation sliders. After printing a sample off, it didn't work! :D

So here is the more "natural" version, any better?

I prefer the second set, though #2 and #3 are a little over exposed. What background did you use..lastolite? My missus is pestering me for some family portraits too.;):)

Ok so to me they are still a tad bright, I am thinking your only issue is now your screen, your lighting seems alright as in even enough, a bit bright on the top left but nothing that needs worrying about, very natural lovely pics. I think you need to drop the brightness a bit more, also there is a hint of pink, more so in the last pic than any other so just adjust the white balance ever so slightly, again could be my screen so I am just saying it as I see it.

Huge huge huge improvement on the first set you put up a couple of months back.

We are all in the same boat! :D

I just used a standard white muslin background and a couple of flash heads - I also gained a few gray hairs and a few broken bones from the overly excited dog! :P

Thanks again - its only from taking a step back and listening to what others have been saying thats made improvements possible. I was really peed off at the start of the summer, but I was spurred on by seeing that others, also in cramped spaces, have been able to get good results.

And prime example, now that its been pointed out, I can see that there is a pink tinge and that they are still a bit too bright. I'll be having an another go soon enough...maybe next time! :D
