It is possible to drop a diesel engine into a Merc ML430? Who do I contact to get a price for engine and job?

    Thanks

    No not really,

it will cost a lot since quite much everything have to be changed,

for instance how you are sure that new diesel engine will work with petrol models gearbox.

I concur, far to much work for the return.

    Thanks Guys.

I like the look of this http://cars.donedeal.ie/for-sale/cars/1507019, but obviously the current engine is impractical for my use.

In the '90's an old landlord of mine in the UK, would buy a Merc petrol car and take to a guy somewhere in Ireland to have the engine replaced. I figured this still doable with a 270 engine from crashed car for example. I wouldn't fit a new one.

    Thanks

At a guess, you would have to swap engine/gearbox/propshaft/mounts and probably the diffs as well. Also, rads, intercoolers, exhausts, fuel tank, fuel pumps and lines. I'm assuming that there is no difference in the shells between petrol and diesel. If there is, you'll have some welding to do.

Then comes the wiring/ECU's/Clocks/speed sensors/Immobilisers etc and getting it working afterwards would be a nightmare.

Swapping engines on older cars is easy, as there is practically no wiring (switched feed to coil and that's about it!). It's the wiring in modern cars that would make the job impractical

best bet would be to get a good lpg conversion cheaper in the long run and you may get a grant for doing it:)
