    Hi all,

Anyone know a craniosacral therapist in Kilkenny? 5 month old baby driving us round the bend! He suffers from reflux from 2 months. He will not be down without screaming his lungs out!! Not in his bouncer, not on the couch, not in his high chair. Someone suggested seeing a craniosacral therapist but cant locate one in Kilkenny / Carlow / Tipperary/ Waterford?

Any names or numbers would be appreciated.

Has he been checked out by the family gp?
Have you had a referal to a childern's hospital?
It could be something simple or it could be the signs of a more serious condition.

He has been assessed by a consultant paeditrician and is on medication. His reflux has settled with medication and introduction of solids so were confident it isnt pain thats upsetting him. As soon as he's taken back up he is smiles and giggles galore!! He's been sleeping through the night just the past week thank God. Dont mean come across as complaining or ungrateful; he's our little man and we love him to bits but its just developmentally for himself; he has to lean to amuse himself and be given the oppertunity to start moving around. I should say he will stay down if you are prepared to sit over him and goo and gaa at him! Suppose its habit but seemingly from what i have heard a cranio sacral therapist can help calm him and release toxins "happy" toxins!!!

If he is being constantly pandered to and picked up and won't sit with out constant interaction from you, ie won't sit in the chair watching while you get things done then it could be habit. Which can be hard to break and after months of responding to an infants cries letting him cry it out (while in a safe position) when he doesn't get his own way can seem to go against every instinct but something it's what has to be done.

Usually I am pretty pro complementary treatments, but CranioSacral Therapy esp for children is something I am pretty sceptical of, have you asked the local health/baby nurse? They may be able to reefer you to someone in your area.

    Michael Behan
    Rossmore
    Carlow
    059 - 9146213 (10am - 6pm Mon. to Fri.)

Calls himself a CranioSacral Therapist, a Sports Injury and Massage Therapist and also a Hypnotherapist.

I have no relationship with the man and no-one in my family has ever availed of his services so this reply is not to be taken as a recommendation. I just happen to know of him as I don't live to far from him.

Best of luck to O.P. whatever ye decide.

This link may be of some help.

    http://www.rollercoaster.ie/new_baby/colic.asp

Both my SIL and I had this done to our various children over the years and it worked a treat. She had a baby we were all convinced was possessed by not one or even two, but three evil demons and after the second session of what was called cranial osteopathy in those days, the baby was a shoo-in for the second coming. I think we used to have 6-8 sessions per baby whether they needed it or not.

My advice would be to contact The Osteopathic Council of Ireland or some such recognised body and ask them for names in the Kilkenny area.

Good luck with it. Constant screaming is wearing on the nerves.

Thanks so much everyone. We really are at the end of our tether now. Anything (obviously within reason) is worth a shot! I have to say I was sceptical too but ahving heard great things about it and reading your post up-for-anything Im more confident at giving it a go. Thanks a million for the link, got a name from it and am going to ring as soon as I finish typing! Heres hoping I'll be posting back here soon with a success story like you!!!

Thanks everyone for your input, as I said I hate complaining when I know were so lucky to have him.

what I found with my screamer is that it's worth keeping trying everything until they eventually just grow out of it :D There are craniosacral therapists who specialise in working with children so that might be worth looking into.

I found some of the "high needs baby" literature helpful...more in reassuring me that I wasn't doing anything wrong than in providing me with solutions.

Though the first 1.5 years were incredibly difficult I have no regrets now for holding my baby as much as she needed to be held in that time. Long term damage for either of us = zero apart from the grey hairs.

Appointment made for Wednesday!!!! Heres hoping!!! Thanks for your contribution Littlebug. We have another little girl and shes only 22 months and cant understand why she cant be in Mammy's or Daddy's arms when she wants a hug! When he is down he is breaking our ear drums and she tries to console him with "no ky" (Dont Cry!!) Its unfair for her to ahve to hear that too. But shes resiliant and so so good, was from day 1! Will post back later in week with results.....(joins hands and prays for miracle!!!)

Good point daddyof2 . I suppose I was lucky that mine was the eldest. Best of luck with it. I know it seemed to make a difference with my youngest in his early collicky phase.

One thing that springs to mind that used to buy me a few minutes here and there was a metronome. I think it was set to 1 beat per second and for some reason she would sit transfixed and forget her woes for a little while

That plus Baby Einstein dvds saved my sanity.

Just on the noise point, i found the hoover or the hairdryer used to settle Ben when he got aggitated.. the white noise apparently is very calming.. don't know why but it did work.. And now he loves watching the washing machine go round and round and round... makes him laugh :D he's 8 months

    Hi all,

Just checking back in with an update on our baby's craniosacral therapy. At his first appointment, doc was able to tell us he had reflux and was breach for a number of weeks during pregnancy (which he was). He said damage was done to the tissues in his tummy that has resulted in a general tightness across his abdomen and diagphragm. He warned us after first session he would be extra cranky and boy was he right!! He was like a wasp for 3-4 days. Then slighly better for 3 days and then cranky again, but not as bad as 3 days following therapy. He then got tummy bug, totally off for a wk and missed second appointment. I went to this weeks appointment with him and OMG!!!! Its so unreal. Our little man wouldnty lie still for 30 seconds literally!!!! He lay as calm as could be for a half hour as the osteopath worked his magic. He barely touched the child!!!Im in awe!!! Lets hope we see some real improvement this week. He hates his car seat and after therapy I put him into it without a whinge. Just seemed so relaxed. The osteopath told us he wont be extra cranky after this session and amy need 2-3 more. Will keep you posted!!

OP - Fantastic news! I just came across this thread & would have supported your decision to go (suppose you don't need the support now though) :D

My daughter was also a constant terror - nothing could get her to settle. We eventually thought to take her to the chiropractor...the evening after her first appointment, she giggled & played games (was about 6 mos at the time). It was such a joy to hear her laugh after months of screaming...and for the first time *ever* I was able to put her down & watch her play independently. Wasn't long before we could recognize when she was getting grizzly & knew it was time for a check up appoint w/ the chiro.

My daughter had a *really* fast delivery (i.e.: 3 pushes & she was out), so I wish someone had suggested the chiro and/or cranial osteopath from the start. Of course, a lot of folks still see these practices as a bit of hocus-pocus, so the Irish medical world is hesitant to recommend them. A neighbor from the UK told me that it would be standard procedure to suggest a chiro to a baby after a birth like this, but here...well, you have to take your own initiative.

Good for you for trying it...I know the relief and/or joy you're feeling now.

I read this thread some months back while investigating this Michael Behan guy, brought our baby for 3 sessions at €50 each and still he does not sleep with wind, we've tried all the remedies and bottles of stuff u can give, but nothing works.
if someone asked me about this Michael Behan all I could say is "it didn't work for us and I could have done with that €150 many times since,"
