Maternity Benefit - Redundancy

My wifes company have announced they are making a number of staff Redundant.

    She is 30 weeks pregnant.

If she is made redundant, will she be straight onto the jobseekers?

    Or

Will she get 6 months materntiy benefit, then on the jobseekers?

From my understanding of state benefits, because I am earning a decent wage - she will only get the jobseekers for a year. So its a case of her having income for a year, or for 18 months.

The company do not contribute towards the maternity benefit, besides the mandatory - first 21 days I think.

Hopefully csomeone can set me straight.

My understanding, and subject to correction is:

She will go onto Jobseeker's Benefit, assuming that she has enough credits, when her redundancy kicks in. However, she will be entitled to claim Maternity Benefit for the 26 weeks that she is entitled to under the Maternity Act. This is slightly higher than what she will be on while on JSB.

After the Maternity Benefit is up, she will go back on JSB until her claim is up (1 year in total), then will be means tested for Jobseeker's Allowance.
