Unfortunately for you a visa for your situation does not exist. Skilled worker visas (H1B) are only available for those with a degree and even then you really need to have some very specialised experience to justify the US company hiring you (as it costs them money). Any work visa is going to require sponsorship by the employer.

Your only option at the moment for possibly going to the US is to apply for the diversity visa lottery (green card lottery) - it should be opening up again soon for 2012.

When I was Younger I had a green card for the US, we went there for a month and registered and got a social security number/card unfortunately stated on the green card was an expiry date of October 2003, M

My question is would it be easier/possible for me to get this renewed now?

No- to remain a greecard holder, you must be a legal permanent resident in the USA, and from what you write, you have been living abroad.

Even if you did manage to get a visa, your certificate in security may well be meaningless over there. A lot of that sort of thing doesn't transfer. Having said that, it doesn't sound like you'd be likely to get permission to remain there, unfortunately.
