    Hi all,

Heading off to India and the Maldives for 3 weeks in Oct and am looking for a good selection of books I can get my teeth into!

Unfortunately they can't be too heavy :(

    Any ideas? Thanks!

Well if you're going to India then I recommend Shantaram. It is a big tome though.

    The Book Thief
Any / all of Steig Larrsons
    The White Tiger
    The Glass Castle

Not sure what your looking for so they are all very different!!

The Shardlake quadrilogy by CJ Sansom. Brilliant. The kind of books that you can't put down (unless you're going to recommend them on boards obviously!!)

The Interpretation(sp) of murder, one of my favourite books of all time, might be one to consider :)

They are great thrillers, set in an interesting time in English history, and are very well researched. In the same vein, Robert Harris writes brilliant thrillers, sometimes written in alternative outcomes of major historical events.

Seeing as we are mentioning Harris, I'd recommend 'Imperium' and 'Lustrum'.

They're not new but the books I enjoyed most on holiday were

    Cryptonomicon - Neal Stephenson
Adventures of Kavalier and Klay - Michael Chabon
Carter Beats The Devil - Glenn David Gold

It's a shame we know the ending.

    Some local ideas:
A Suitable Boy - Vikram Seth
The Siege of Krishnapur - JG Farrell
Anil's Ghost - Michael Ondaatje (set in Sri Lanka)
The God of Small Things - Arundhati Roy
