I need to submit an abstract for a conference poster. I haven't done one before, so any pointers would be helpful.

Make sure you follow the conference guidelines for abstracts first off.

Any time I've submitted an abstract that was accepted I followed the old

    Aims
    Literature
    Method
    results
    Discussion (V SMALL)

formula. Remember that a poster is usually for a continuing project for the showcasing of a method or interim results, so they don't expect you do have findings/discussion yet, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Most conferences like posters that are a little bit unusual, so that they can be seen to be promoting breaking research, but without risking the academic cache of their conference, so you can afford to be a little bit original, but don't go mad.

    Hope that helps...
