Was just watching the Eddie Hobbs consumer show on RTE last night and one of the topics up for discussion was the inconsistencies of GP charges for their visits. I usually attend a GP practice in Wexford town where the standard cost is €60 per visit (steep enough) and this would include having blood tests, hearing test, etc. However, with little choice one particular day I was forced to attend a female GP in the Enniscorthy region for a check up and a blood test. The visit cost was €60 but, because the blood sample was taken by the practice nurse and not the GP,this cost an additional €25. Was horrified having to pay a total of €85. Anyone else think this is a bit of a rip off or have similar experiences?

Of course it's a rip-off. The standard price of visiting the gp in France is 16 euro, in UK it's free.
The charge you paid is pretty similar throughout Enniscorthy........perhaps someone out there knows of a doctor in Enniscorthy that has an inclusive price?
If you become a politician ratmouse you'll be able to claim it back in expenses.........then go on a long holiday to get over it.........and claim that back on expenses.
The amounts paid out to gp's is published each year, the hse payments, and the amounts they receive are staggering, and that's without the private paid patients.
