Alternative for baby leeks

    I'm planning to cook a Jamie Oliver "chicken in a bag" recipe which used 5 baby leeks per person but I can't seem to find any of them, perhaps its a seasonal thing. So I'm looking for alternatives as I'm guessing large leeks will be less tender, any suggestions?

    I was thinking of scallions (spring onions) but thought the flavour might be a little too strong, even when cooked, am I wrong?

    Scallions sounds okay to me.

    Or maybe a pak choi torn into its smaller pieces.

    I'd go with the scallions though.

    Same family as leeks alliums, tesco do a baby veg range but you might have a better chance of finding baby leeks in the large stores. Baby veg ranges are grown all year round in africa(low labour costs and good climate) and flown in by air.

    Scallions or spring onions are often used blanched and billed on the menu of many restaurants as baby leeks and I've never heard anyone complain about it
