I cant wait to drive it. It looks great. It is going to be interesting to see how much time it takes off driving Waterford to Wexford.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,237 ✭✭✭Azatadine

Yeah, I reckon it'll take about 10 mins off the journey?

Ha, yeah, I reckon it'll knock 10 mins off if travelling from Wx to Wat in the evening but probably a lot more if travelling the other way?

    Can't wait.

I hope I won't be a danger on the road though. I'll want to look up the river and down the river and up at the cables and in front and behind all at the one time.:D.

Maybe your first trip should be as a passenger. :P

I'm sure one of the local papers had an article which mentioned a pre-opening walk - might be a good time to ogle - you could stop and stare all you like!

Ah yeah they will alright but where's the fun in that. Much more enjoyable doing at 100kms an hour. :D

I suggest we do a Boards convoy....led by M17 who I suspect is one of the gaffers on the job, followed by a picnic at Pink Rock.

    I'll bring chocolate brownies.

    No, he definitely isn't.

m17 took lots of phots of the ... M17, because he lives near to it.

For this thread, m17 is doing all the hard work of scouring the road website, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and bringing us up to date here with the latest phots.

Trojan work and saves us having to do it!

A crossing of the lower Shannon estuary would certainly be something.

    Was wondering that myself.

Might they have to close the bridge during high winds like they do with the Foyle Bridge in Derry?

If proper wind barriers are installed wind shouldn't be much of a problem.

Similar bridges, with proper wind barriers, e.g. Queensferry crossing in Scotland don't seem to have many problems with restrictions due to high winds.

Southeasterlies, which we often get in Feb-April might be an issue if they're F6+ - otherwise it should be okay.

Good chance of a variable speed limit on the bridge Id have thought, and a possible ban on 'high sided vehicles' in strong winds - I remember the Severn Crossing used to have this when I used it a number of yrs ago.

Do we still need legislation for variable speed limits? I seem to recall that coming up in some M50 thread.
