Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

They are ten a penny at the minute. That means you will pick them up cheap but the rates are shyte.

What size of a machine is he thinking of buying

Depends on the size,130 is 35-42 an hour around the west.
Insurance depends on the job, minimum is public liability which is in or around 1500 for the year.Extra's are transit insurance, fire and theft, and a whole host of other pu.If he's good he'll get the work,if he's not then he'll get browned off fairly quickly at it.Good luck to him.

Not a great time to be getting into the digging for hire game - most are trying to exit it, unlessss he has a guarantee of getting steady work, or he is the Tiger Woods of digger drivers. A lot of lads are struggling to break even, on the rates at the moment. And even when the work is done, can be a real drudge waiting, and waiting, and waiting, to get paid.

thanks all, he is getting a Rubber machine, (JCB or similar), he drove em fo years in the Uk but has been in a factory fo the last few years and is trying to access funds through EGf funding so is doing up a business plan at the moment. He has quite a bit of work lined up but is a bit unsure of current rates ,
thanks again for all your help and any further help

I asked two lads in my locality, to give me a day rate 8 hours. I need about 3 days / 4 at the outside. One said €260, the other €275. I'm talking 10 ton track machines here. They know I will be on site with them, so no idle time

Both are good operators. Long time in the game. Have had both on and off over the years, ditching and land maintenance and so on.
