How long to lodge AIB cheque to BOI?

I lodged an AIB cheque to BOI Monday morning..the woman said it wouldn't clear until Tuesday. Shouldn't it take 5 days? Is it possible I can expect the money in my account today? And will the money appear in my account at any random time in the day from the banks opening hours? Thanks.

Balances are generally updated overnight, so it most likely wouldn't update randomly during the day
