Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hello, this is my first time on these forums.
I started cycling in to rowing training on my dads bike recently and he suggested i get my own.In the summer i often rent bikes to do 40, 50 mile trips around The Iveragh peninsula so i was thinking of getting a road bike, maybe second hand as my budget is <€500.
What would you think about these bikes on donedeal.ie? Would you recommend buying second hand or are there too many little hassles?

Hope I havent made myself a few competing buyers!

Hi Noobie, the Trek would be quite a good bike and if its really in as good nick as the photo shows it would be quite a good buy. There are many threads about buying a new bike around here so read up on a few. So long as the bike is in good nick second hand is often the best way to start, check out Adverts too for other ideas. I cant figure out the name on the other bike but doesnt look up to much and you'd prob buy it new for €2/300 so would be cheaper than the Trek but far lower quality.

    I hope this helps

    Welcome aboard.

That trek looks ok as price includes gear. Size isn't mentioned so you would need to check that.

Other one looks not so good really imo.

In general you have to be careful with s/h as there are pitfalls if you don't know your way around bikes.

If you upped your budget just a tad you would be into decent entry level bike territory with the peace of mind of a guarantee.
