    Hi lads,
The licensing laws make it far too difficult for us to update the policy to allow the sale of firearms, specialised sites have the time and resources to focus on policing this, we would not as we are much broader site.

With all due respects Donna, that is Bull !!
The gun sites even in the UK simply act as an advertising medium, after looking at their terms& conditions, in guntrader.co.uk which covers in the UK all it has is about copyright, and computor saftey etc.
NOTHING about the firearms laws.Which I would have thought would be a big thing in the UK.Simply stated, the IRISH sites like B&S ,DD.ie have more security procedures in place than the UK when selling firearms.Simply put,if you say that all firearms sales must be via a dealer escrow,no phone numbers or addresses will be accepted for security of the vendor in the advert,[bar for DD'ie personal use of verification and contact]and to view the gun it is in XYZ gun dealer. You are coverd 110%Ditto for any ammo sales.
That covers anything that can be loaded aimed and fired.
it is then UP TO the prospective buyer to prove to the Sellor that he is legally entitled to posses a liscenseable item.DD.ie has then nothing more to do with it.
We allow the sale of gun safes, but not scopes or ammunition or silencers
    .
This is what is puzzling us,why is DD.ie being selective on this issue?Belive it or not scopes are legally possesible without a liscense or firearms cert.Their use is a different matter
We have 1.5 unique visitors to the site each month, the site is actually visited over 5 million times a month from people coming back several times
    .

Glad to hear it! The revelance being to this issue????
Our decision was not made from siding with any anti campaign, it was made solely from what we can moderate.

Well isnt it somwhat odd, that DD.IE promptly changed their policies on what type of wording and breeds that could be advertised after ICABS started their letter writing campaign to you??To the point you have thrown out the baby with the bathwater. The antis were on about killer dogs and dogs that could be used for illegal acvities,DD'ie has now gone ont o firearms and related equipment for some reason?

BTW will you also be now removing any adverts for labardor retrivers, spaniels, irish, english, and gordon setters,Kerry blue terriers, jack and parson russel terriers, dachsunds, weimarners, pointers of all types, hungarian vizulas, english mastiffs ,great danes, whippetts, greyhounds and all related breeds, irish wolfhounds, stag or deer hounds? As these are also "hunting dogs" and could be used for causing suffering to animals being hunted?? As to be correct they will have to be removed as well.

As explained fully above, they are not.

Perhaps DoneDeal could make a statement on that point, since ICABS are merrily quoting your policy as being explicitly in support of their agenda...

That's the point rrpc and sparks were trying to get across: You do need a license to buy one! Or at least to "possess" one.

So, I suppose an RFD could sell you one, you may buy one, but you may not possess one - Which would mean you'd own one, but it would have to stay sitting in the RFD's!

So, an RFD who sells you one without you obtaining any authorisation to possess or use a moddy, isn't really doing you any favours, just increasing his profits and potentially landing you in hot water. Not much of a favour, if you ask me!

You don't need a licence to buy a rifle either, in fact you have to buy one before you can get a licence.

It's exactly the same thing with a silencer, because...

    ...wait for it...

    ...it's a firearm :D

That's fine Tack, but listen to the answers every so often, would you?

    Keep reading:

I do listen Sparks, I listened to the people who gave me the permit.

In regards to the other sections a-g

Could these be posted please on the Big Red section?

I could not find it when I attempted to read section 1.

I know many fellows who only leagally held permits for mod's post 2009, as then there was a place on the FCA1 form to apply for one.

So if I have the Mod off my rifle in teh back of my car and I get stopped at a checkpoint and I have no Riflepermit on me I can be "booked"

Seems a load of hogwash, but good to know.

You could be booked, but as soon as you showed your cert down at the local station, it'd be sorted out.

There's nothing on this in the big red announcement because that announcement is on how to apply for a licence; that's something we'll probably change as soon as I get time to do a bit of editing.

Google the 1990 firearms act and you'll find this: http://www.irishstatutebook.ie/1990/en/act/pub/0012/index.html

You can get the full rollup of all the firearms acts to download on the NTSA website here.

Basic problem is there is no onus on the firearms dealer to verify that you're entitled to possess a silencer. So he can merrily sell you a silencer and as soon as you receive it after paying him, you've broken the law.

Awful situation. I have come across more than one dealer who encouraged me to buy a silencer before obtaining permission. One told me in his shop, when I asked about the procedure to get one "Don't raise the hare" - basically don't bother applying, and if he reads these boards he'll know exactly who he is.

He get's paid, and if I'd gone through with it I may have ended up in hot water easily. Say, if I was involved in a car accident with the gun and silencer on board. Not something you can prepare for.

www.a2ztrader.ie (new site that i have no connection with) will have a dedicated fieldsports section in the next few weeks, the owner of the site is a hunter himself so antis wont have much say in what ads are placed
