goldeneye brought us 4-way multiplayer, golden guns, and killer midgets with oversized hands and heads. what wasnt to like? Theres lots of good shooters on consoles, but they tend to centralize around the 4-player aspect. Look at Timesplitters, that was lots of fun. Actually, those games were just fun. Timesplitters 2 was and probably still is a fantastic bargain.

The problem with goldeneye and timesplitters for me was that I was playing Quake 2 and Half-Life deathmatch on my friends 4 player lan and they didn't come close. Goldeneye was a nice way to emulate it cheaply but it wasn't the real deal. But that's a different discussion.

    Over 100
Bug fixes, tweaks, major content releases, minor content releases, etc. etc.

I just played my 200th hour last night as a matter of fact. Defending dustbowl was fantastic: the other team kept re-strategising. I love a game where at any moment you can be staring down a dozen heavies or a dozen medics or a dozen demos. Do you know what a dozen pipebombs being fired sounds like? Music.

A mouse and keyboard to a PC gamer is almost intuitive.
While many cannot touch type without looking (or at least glancing) at their keyboard most of the time, to a gamer using same you will rarely if ever even glance down at the mouse or keyboard - they become a well tuned and easily used extension to your eyes in a game, hand-eye co-ordination and all that jazz.

With a controller, oh man, how many times have I thrown it at the wall in frustration trying to fecking aim the crosshairs correctly while also trying to strafe, keep an eye out on what's behind me, switch weapons fast when needed and maybe even type in chat that someone's a cock, all at the same time.

Keyboard and mouse any day and definitely PC over Console.
Besides, I like playing (emulator) Mario 64 in 1920x1200 resolution with 16x Anisotropic filtering and 8x AA if I want a console fix on my PC ;)

Ahhh, PC shooters are in decline, there's no doubt about it really, kind of a shame but it was to be expected. Even just looking at how much the Counterstrike community has faded over the last few years (Without a doubt the biggest and best shooter ever made).

I have a feeling that valve will probably push harder on the console front in the next few years as well, so when they eventually released HL3/CS2(3 if you count source as 2) it will probably be getting huge support on consoles too, its definitely got potential to knock CoD off their console dominance.

Its obvious that a mouse and keyboard is better than a pad for FPS/RTS/MMO's... but game pads really aren't as bad as PC gamers pretend, i've posted some of my vids on cadred (CSS website) and some people don't even realise im playing on my PS3.. and cs players are without a doubt the most critical and trolling out of all the PC communities. I have no doubt that the next generation of consoles will bridge that control gap even more.

PC gaming on a whole will probably always exist, sure the single most played game out is PC based(WoW) and isnt showing any signs of going away.

CS has only faded because it's old and the community a cess pool that isn't really doing itself any favours attracting newbies. The community has moved on to other games like battlefield, CoD and TF2.

It hasn't really tho, CoD(4 im guessing you mean) is shrinking aswel, the competitive community is still quite big but there aren't any new players coming into it and the MW2 community is tripe because of how IW ****ed the PC version. TF2 isn't getting any bigger, its got a great community but the game isn't attracting new players(Both games are still quite small compared to cs). The problem is that there are alot of people that are just leaving the community and don't have the time for gaming on the PC... this has always been the case, but there was always young ones starting out and replacing the numbers... fact is most kids are not interested in PC gaming anymore, consoles are just so much easier, might sound like a good thing as you don't have to listen to as many whiney little bastards but its not good in the long run.

Nearly everyone i know from my time playing CS (from 2001-2008) has stopped playing.

Its all about money and developers aren't going to continue producing games for a market that just isn't big enough..

I have to say, I picked up Call of duty 4 modern warfare 2 the other day and realised it was a console port to pc. You could clearly see the mouse wouldnt move as fast as I was making it and a number of other annoying issues.

Brought it back anyway, thoroughly dissapointed.

Obviously as has been pointed out it is a very flawed statement.

Battlefield bad company 2 is pretty big on pc and its streets ahead of the console versions.

The PC is the foundation for everything else to be made. Granted now there is some fantastic console online games and xperiences, for me the demographic and the games that suit others have never changed for me.

PC is the best for RPG's FPS' and RTS games.

Consoles succeed in dabbler gaming, sports franchises and third person action adventure games.

In saying that I've every intention of picking up a good controller and giving fifa and pro evo a go on my pc.

Rather than saying that, I'd say BC2 shows how the two versions can be differentiated correctly. The main differences being a proper server browser and upped player count, the former being expected from a PC title whereas the latter suits the slower pace of the console version given that it's locked to 30fps.

On a side note, the game was designed primarily for consoles. The reason that it came out on the PC this time around was due to the work they had done on the Frostbite engine for BF1943. What will be more interesting is how BF3 shapes up now that it's multi-platform.

In his defense, this is the platform breakdown of day1 sales for modern warfare 2 according to http://gamrfeed.vgchartz.com/story/5826/modern-warfare-2-sells-7-million-copies-on-day-one/

    Xbox360 :
    55%
    PS3 :
    33%
    PC :
    12%

(dont know if its accurate, just the first site I found when googling)

MW2 stats are worthless. People were pissed off with the whole thing and there was a boyotting/surplus pirating as a result. Also a number of people probably just got console editions because they weren't getting any better on PC.

On topic: He's probably not a moron; he's just trying to make it sound like the next generation of gaming to get them off the shelves.

Those results are probably a little askew, considering how the PC version was not made to cater to PC gamers.

Find stats for something like Bad Company 2 or something else multi-platform that actually caters to PC gamers (maybe Black Ops or the new Medal of Honor once they come out) and use those as an argument.

It also has to be factored in that digital sales are not counted in these charts and that it has now overtaken retail for PC gaming.

Infraction for Jazzy. From the charter:
    2. Flamewars.
This is not an arena for you to prove how brilliant you are at calling people names. Keep that witty tongue to yourself. And if somebody else starts slagging you off, ignore him/her or we'll ban you too. Of course, if it's really, really funny and the guy/gal was being obviously moronic then maybe, just maybe we might ignore it. Risky though...
