I know i havent said a single positive thing since coming onto the xbox boards but sadly that roll isnt going to change here. Im so disappointed with DR2, after reading a few reviews though ive realised that the things i hate about the game are what everyone else loves about it so its just me so.

Essentially im the kind of gamer that despises repeating stuff in quick succession so DR is just about the worst game for me because you die so frequently putting you so far back that i just cant play this.

The actual zombie killing is a great laugh though.

In that regard, it's much better than the original. It prompts you to save after finishing each sequence of events that form part of the story, and you can save easily in any of the toilets, so it's not as bad/hard as the first one in that regard. There are a LOT more zombies though right from the get go, so it's tougher, but the weapon combinations make for a lot more fun and make levelling up a little easier too! :D

Finding it a bit frustrating for got about the whole clock watching time management aspect to it, and having to balance going for survivors with watching the clock on the main mission. Just failed case 1-4 so I had the choice to reload to a save where I would not have made it in time either or continue on just killing zombies and wait for the end of day 3.

Think I might just level up a bit and then start over, question : do the survivors you save carry over? I'm thinking not.

  • Registered Users Posts: 30,123 ✭✭✭✭Star Lord

No, just your stats and level carry over AFAIK...

I play in quite a relaxed way when I'm in the early levels, trying to discover combo weapons, using them to level up, and doing only the story missions and some easy survivor rescuing. Works pretty well, then when I'm (harder/better :pac:) stronger/faster I take on more survivor missions :)

Think i'm just going to use the time to explore the place and look for goodies etc before I start over.

On another note the achievements on this are super cruel by the looks of them.

Again, people misunderstand the concept behind this game. It is there to be played multiple times and the advise is given to new players is to level up how ever means possible, (kill zombies, save survivors, build weapons, enviroment bonuses, fight pychos, endless amounts of things to do and see) then either restart with an upgraded character and attempt the case missions or it now even gives the option to restart the main game wherever you like and still keep your stats. With the now added availabilty of three save slots and saving between case missions it makes it much easier than before without ruinng it's tension built upon the feeling that you are in an outbreak and you die any moment. The CO-OP also makes approaching boss battles alot easier and tactics play a big role in how it plays out..I also haven't had as much fun in ages messing about with my buddies (Attached a wheelchair to the scrambler...hilarious!!)

In fairness it does not get the credit it deserves as it has massive replay value and there is so much to discover, again I bought the offical guide as I did the first one to help me on this.

Again I will state that this is the core mechanics of the game so they were not going to change from the first one.I can understand that some people find the controls clunky and at times they can be frustrating but also massively rewarding if you give it the time and effort. If you did'nt like the first one and you can't handle these mechanics, please please don't buy this one..tired of seeing the same comments and yet people still go out and buy it.

eh because it was an arcade type game and was blocky / grainy as ****.

its a ****n disgrace if the graphics are like that in the finished product.

The were better in dead rising 1

What the hell are you talking about?

You're being harsh just for the sake of it. The graphics aren't bad at all considering there's about 150 zombies on screen at times. Not even slightly a disgrace as you put it.

+1 This, Has He even walked out to the Silver Stirp and looked around, it is incredibaly detailed with so much going on onscreen.

    Indeed!

What level are you at? i'm at 17 and still struggling with Psychos, i gave up on the story line just so i could carry on levelling up by saving people and killing things. I'll start again when i'm up at level 25 or something. It's tough but very rewarding!

this game rocks. I've died a couple of times that has set me back maybe 30 mins each time. Frustrating sometimes as I'd have saved 5 survivors only to die on that Chef Antwoine in the food court. Finally managed to best him yesterday but survivor defected on me after saving her making the whole fight redundant. Still loving it. Need to get back onto the strip and make changes to the bike and rack up some serious kills riding up and back.

I do like the way the game rewards you for saving certain survivors and killing certain Psychos. Same as the first game. Getting access to certain areas is key to success as well as the shortcuts.

xbla releases are restricted in size. they have to come in under a certain file size or microsoft wont allow it on their service, this often means lower graphical resolution than you'll get on a disc, especially for demos. take pes for example, the actual game looks quite a bit better since they didnt have to compress the crap out of everything and lower fidelity to make it fit within filesize guidelines

    Not anymore they're not.

The filesize restrictions has been removed has it not though for arcade releases, and demos never had this restriction either, (Bioshock demo was over a GB when released.)

I know it was once 150MB, but recently there's been titles of over a GB as well.
I remember an article where MS stated they were removing the restriction and went on a case by case basis for approving for XBLA, I'll see if I can link it.

Just when I think I have found my favourite Combo weapon (Rocket Launcher), I go ahead and make the Super Slicer.....

Would love to see the carnage 2 people in co-op with 2 of these could throw out.

Some recent XBLA games were over a gig (Lara Croft: GOL was 2gb, Sonic Adventure was 1gb)

Deathspank was around the 1 gig mark too IIRC...

Youre absolutely spot on Mick, i completed missed the point here. You can restart the game with your leveled character...? If thats true ive been extremely unfair to poor old DR because now it makes a hell of a lot more sense. (I didnt play the first one for more then 20 minutes so i never knew this)

Yup that's what eventually made me love the original Dead Rising and what I do now is I never reload a save file. If I die, I just start the game over again at teh higher level, making it that bit easier to get to the spot that I was at when I died and when I get there I'll be levelled up enough to overcome it. It's the charm of the game for me.

I was the same played it for a short time and got rid of it, picked it up again months later to give it a 2nd chance and loved it.

Glad to hear it, and sorry if I seemed a bit narked..Give it a chance and I am sure if you put the effort in you will really enjoy it. Hint Hint Get some CO-Op going guys!

To Bombleswizzum: I am level 19, although the level up system has changed somewhat. Now you unlock abilities at random so if you are on the same level as someone else it does not mean you both will have the same skills.

Never seem to have enough inventory spots in the game. It's tough when you come across a new weapon you can use for a combo and have to decide what to ditch. I'm usually carrying the book for 50% extra health from food and occasionally another random book. I found the Hoover in the Nightclub in Yucatan casino last night and wanted to try make some weapons with it but it broke after killing maybe 10 zombies.

Theres another at the safe house if you look around. and the other required parts for the nastyness located on the way to the maintenance room ;)

My favorite so far is the leadpipe / rocket combo, but soooooooooo bloody annoying that he drops it so easily

yea i hate those weapons that don't let you jump kick with them equipped cause you end up dropping them in the middle of a swarm of zombies and have to hack you're way back in.

Two of my favourites are the Flamethrower and Rolling Thunder. When I made rolling thunder i thought it was gonna be naf until i saw all the zombies around the guy wearing the mask getting electrocuted as well. Pick up again and rinse repeat and sit back and enjoy.

The shortcut from outside the saferoom to the other side of the map is essential for covering long distances in no time.

Looking forward to getting enough cash to buy the keys for the car in the mall. That will be epic

    Some of my favourites:

Tenderizers: Combine MMA Gloves and Nails.

Blambow: Combine Bow and Arrow and Dynamite.

    Beam Sword: Flashlight and Gems.

    Boomstick: Combine Pitchfork and Shotgun

Defiler (Fire axe + Sledgehammer) tears through bosses with the jump attack.
    Knife Gloves are good too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,738 ✭✭✭djkeogh

I haven't tried the defiler on the Psychos yet cause it's so slow to wield. I like the Machete and Broom for them but machetes are tough to come across. Guy I couldn't beat last was the dude in the wedding chapel with Chainsaw. He was a pain in the ass and I ran out of coffee creamers to keep me alive.

I died a few times on him also, used a whole plethora of drinks I made in the food court on the way for him :)

After some major setback and lazyness by not saving 1st , I had to start checking if the missions were psychos before going, least I be ill prepared.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,738 ✭✭✭djkeogh

yea it's happened to me a few times where I just run expecting a simple escort when running tight on time for other things and end up in an almighty fight which ultimately sets you back 30 minutes. I think the timer is gonna expire on that psycho now so I'll let it go for this playthrough.

I have to say I'm finding the time management alot easier having been so familiar with the original game so I'm managing to keep on top of the Case so far. Coming up to Part 5 now and not far off entering Day 3.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,445 ✭✭✭recyclops

I agree found time management easier after organizing myself with system in one so far only really missed one psycho but it's because I let the chef run down.
I love figuring out how to kill psychos great sense of accomplishment if ya ask me, find alot of them don't handle the boxing glove Bowie knife combo well, just gone into overtime on first playthrough but loving it

I was wondering about the books and magzines , are the stats permanent once you read it or do you need to hold it in your inventory?
