Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I have a full category B driving license for last 8 years. I have had 2 provisional category A licenses last one expired on 11/10/09. In order to continue driving the 125cc moped I have I have to sit the test for category A 125cc. This seems like a lot of hassle. Should I just sell up and buy 50cc moped which I can drive on full driving license. What is the test like. Can I do it for manual 125cc only as I would have to learn how to do gears otherwise. Many thanks.

For a full A licence you have to do the test on a bike with atleast 150cc. If you do the test on the 125cc bike you will get yourself a full A1 licence which means you can only drive 125cc bikes and no bigger!!

I presume the test itself would be very similar to each other only diff being the bikes power?

You can't use a moped on a car licence. You need an M licence. Using gears should be no bother to you if you can drive a car.

If you want to ride a bike get a few lessons and do the test for the A licence (not A1). You'll need to rent/borrow a bike over 125 cc though.

If the B licence was issued before Oct 2006 then it has M, as that was the law when the licence was issued, it doesn't mater what is written on the licence.

Be aware that a moped (M) is defined as a bike of less the 49cc which can't exceed 45km/h. Be careful if buying a 50cc scooter as a lot of these don't qualify as mopeds and you could be done for no licence if stopped.

If you are going to get yourself a bike licence you should apply for an A licence, in case you get the urge to go for something more powerful in the future.

Since you are already used to riding a bike you could get some lessons on a school bike to get used to gears and then hire the bike for the test.
