Who uses Matlab

    Don't know if in the right thread but give it a go. Started using Matlab to price futures options etc. in college, but want to know have popular it is?

    So, do ye use it and what for?

    It's used widely in the macro world and apps like Dynare have been created to facilitate DSGE estimation. Beyond the usual lazy approach to solving integrals, I use it for macro modelling, some financial toolbox functions, SDE functions in the econometrics toolbox, and so on.

    Look up GNU Octave, an open source alternative. Used it on my course (not economics related).

    Its easy enough to get going.
