Since when have they used a yellow patch for the road number?

Yeah so it looks like the NRA has indeed decided that bypassed N roads will get this yellow R road treatment. I think this is such a waste of money...the old N road numbers should have been kept. Only in Ireland would you have a continuously numbered REGIONAL road going from Limerick etc. to Dublin.

They should have legislated that M roads were a class in their own right and kept the bypassed N routes (with their proper 100km/h limits!). These roads should have also stayed under the remit of the NRA as they are defacto (as we are now seeing with this yellow patching) alternative routes should incidents close a motorway.

None of this was even thought about when it should have been. We now have to waste even more money patching all the R signs on the old N routes.
