Ah so it's just Arthur Guinness celebrating his Birthday?

Strange, I thought he was dead.

Where did i say that genius? I'm sure you have friends that celebrate your birthday.

My point was it doesn't have to be a national holiday, to celebrate something, if someone wants to blow off steam, go listen to music and have a good night out, I don't see where the problem is.

Last year I kind of understood it, 250 years etc. But this year is a pisstake imo, who celebrates 251 years ffs.

Likewise 'genius', me celebrating my birthday and the whole country celebrating a dead man's birthday (whole country being a nation, which leads to my use of the word 'national') on the back of a marketing campaign by Diageo are not the same thing. It's a stupid comparison.

I was actually going out to the pub last night anyway for a pint after work with a couple of mates. Couldn't find any empty seats in my local because of the amount of chumps out 'celebrating' this ****e. People really will buy into anything.

Did I say it was an Irish Celebration?
Don't put words in my fcuking mouth! I don't appreciate it!

I do come into contact with idiots who still think its an Irish owned drink - THATS ALL!
I'd nearly say it's impossible to have an Irish draught pint in a pub. Exceptions being porter house perhaps and such breweries.

Its an excuse to go out and drink and celebrate Guinness. I couldnt give a ****e if its done by a marketing crowd or anyone else.

Cmon, loosen up! Guinness is one of our countries biggest exports, and personally I love the stuff. Why shouldnt it be celebrated by people who want to.

Guinness were saying that they are struggling with the younger generation (18-32) so i presume they are worried they will start to fade away eventually. Arthurs day may bring in new customers who never would have thought of drinking guiness before. My first pint of the black stuff was arthurs day last year and i quite liked it.

It would be terrible to see the company fade away. Its part of Irish Culture.
Guinness is a brand, not a company. Remember they were up and ready to move away from James's until the property crash, and have tried in the past to shift brewing altogether to the UK. They did infact shift a lot of brewing to the UK at one point.

Why are people getting so worked up?

I'm sure there are a few in the Diageo marketing department that were given a rest day today after they done an exceptionally good job. I saw a lot of pubs overflowing at 6 yesterday evening. Fareplay to them, they are doing their job well if they can say "Drink Guinness" and a large amount of people respond with "How many pints?".

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,255 ✭✭✭Renn

I don't really have anything against Diageo. I do have issues with the people celebrating a marketing campaign however.

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,978 ✭✭✭✭Ash.J.Williams

Is it good for the economy?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,255 ✭✭✭Renn

Probably. I have to buy a new pair of shoes from walking on all the p*ss in town.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,047 ✭✭✭demakinz

That ba$tard hijacked my birthday,,on the up side there always a good lot out for it..

it would be a lot better if guinness or diagio lowered the prices of the pints on Arthurs day.

    Right.
A bunch of nonsensical ramblings have been removed from this thread. Some posts quoting the chap have also been removed as part of the clean up.
Needless to say, the chap in question is banned.
    PM me with any questions.

    Needless to say,

    Needles to say..

I haven't even read the thread because I'm hungover.

All I can say is I enjoyed my pints last night in Dundalk. Do it every Thursday. A few more was in which was good but not packed.

Is that in the context of the thread? If not..ah well....

It's not a holiday, so it's not a national holiday, most of the country would be out watching the all ireland finals aswell, does that make them national holidays?

Stupid people fall for marketing shocker!

Seriously lads lets get some perspective here, the marketing lads behind this simply tapped into the Irish psyche and the fact that we have the "sure its just a bit of craic" attitude and believe me it has come to fruition. These guys are the same kind of people that market to women the anti-aging creams or that fake tan looks natural, they are cashing on peoples weaknesses. Welcome to 'marketing for the majority'.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

Went to the local last night, happily expecting my 20 euro note to last me the evening, only to be told that the offer was restricted to pubs where a minimum of 3 kegs of Guinness were sold a night.
Ordered a pint of Carlsberg and went home.

    Fúck Arthur tbh.
