    Hi all,

A friend of mine is thinking about going up north to get some dental treatment done as it is considerably cheaper than down south. Has anyone got any good recommendations to go to in the Belfast/Newry area?

    Many thanks.

Any interest in quality at all or only cost?

hello Fitz, thats a strange question! everybody cares about price, but quality, is a dentist not a dentist?

    regards, rugbyman

No quality varies depending on the experiance and training of the dentist. And importantly the ammount of time the dentist spends carrying out the treatment. Also with prosthetic work the quality of laboratory works varies. Higher quality work generally costs more just like anything in life. You pay more for more time, better qualified dentists and better laboratory work.

The longevity and appearance of the final job will be a combination of a good dentist, good laboratory work and lots of attention and time in planning and carrying out treatment. The best treatment is rarely the cheapest.

i was recommended "NO NAMES ALLOWED" in newry and had a root canal, 2 crowns fillings and cleaning done there. i was very happy with the work and saved a lot, plus spent a bit in sainsbos. i have since recommended this practice to others, and have received good feedback- i broght my teenage daughter there to enquire about braces, having been assured of their necessity by my local orthodontist (at €4500) and was advised not to proceed as it wasnt necessary, even though i was all set to spend.
also, you can claim on paye at year end..

'Need' for orthodontic work is a grey area. Will your daughter die due to not getting braces? Almost certainly not. So does she NEED them? Almost certainly not. Will her teeth grow into near perfect alignment without braces? I'd trust the orthodontist and say almost certainly not. If she wants a straight, beautiful smile will she be best to get braces? For sure. Be careful you don't get a stroppy 18 year-old blaming you for not getting her braces when she was young and half her class had them. The surgery you mention is a general dentistry surgery. Your daughter would not have been assessed by a specialist orthodontist.

Any dentistry or surgery for that matter can result in unforeseen complications. Will you be able to get emergency after care from the North? Once you factor in petrol and time there is very little saving. Most clinics in South have got a lot more competitive re pricing so i would check nearer to home first. My periodontist was invited by a clinic up North to do implants for them and they were charging more than she does in ***mod edit, fairly obvious who your talking about, removed as per charter*****.
