Its getting to that time of the year again folks, can we start a round up of prices. I do know that some companies will discount if its cash on delivery.

Will be ringing around today, anyone getting prices?

I always find Naughton's to be the cheapest. Don't know the current rate however as I filled up back in April before the Greens slapped the carbon tax on it.

Also try East Clare Oil, I find their prices very competitive and last year they delivered in the snow when other companies refused.

I usually find Bennett Oil quite reasonable. Apparently (I think it was the limerick post I read it in) they now have kerosene and marked gas oil pumps at their petrol station in Roxboro.

I got a fill last week. I did a bit of shopping around and Naughtons were the cheapest for me. I got it for 64.7 P/L (Kerosene)That was for two tanks though (approx 2000L) so there was a discount on what would have been their standard price.

Can I ask an inconveniently open-ended question?!?!

- What would the average Household spend on Oil for the Winter period? Would 500 Litres do most? Thinking of your average family Home with reasonable usage etc.

TBH I'm not sure but I really hope so. Just bought the house in the summer so it's my first winter buying oil. Always had storage heating before that.

Bennets had a 4 day back log so I went with O'Dwyers, they always do their best to get to you in any weather.

Cant remember, but they couldnt deliver for 4 days at the time, so i didnt bother.

€413 for 500 litres from Shreelawn Oil the other day - and I had to wait nearly a week for delivery. It seems that being a regular customer these days means nothing. Looks like I got ripped off big time so that will teach me to ring round and check prices next time. Could have saved myself €55 if I had gone to O'Dwyers

I'd imagine that when petrol and diesel prices are on the increase, I'd imagine it should be the same with home heating oil.

EDIT: Just rang around there and got the following quotes:

Naughtons €397

EMO €414 :eek:

Bennetts €402

Shreelawn €405

Tara €397 but then got €10 off as an existing customer so €387.:D

Phoned around this morning , don't have loads of money atm , like most people , so I am only looking for around €200 worth of kerosene . So the price per litre is based on that .


East Clare Oil .85
Naughtons .83
Tara .925 ( but would match Naughtons .83 )
EMO .92 ( no interest in matching prices )
Bennets .79 ( .78 if I ordered €250 )


So it's Bennets for me .

Why do companies quote prices then offer to match prices of their competitors, I hate this and would rearly if ever give them the business. Stick with the company that is willing to sell at the cheapest price.

I give them the line " no point matching it now , you have to beat it " ... I think it is unfair not to go with who ever gives the cheapest quote first .
