    Hi Boarders

Transit wouldnt start yesterday so got a mechanic to look at it for me. He tells me that the alternator is overcharging and cooking the battery. Both will need to be replaced at a cost of €520

Much like the battery: I dont want to be overcharged or cooked, does this price sound about right?

Try a breakers yard for the altenator, theres a guy somewhere on the greenhills road in Tallaght with loads of transit bits or take your altenator to a a rewinder and get it checked.
Battery is €100 approx depending on brand, amperage etc

    Unusual for those to overcharge.

Get the wiring checked before you condemn the alternator. There is a sensor connection that will cause this if it goes open circuit, the plug has three terminals, the outside two should have battery voltage.

I don't know what the price on this should be so can't say if it's being overcharged but if you have reason not to trust your mechanic, I'd recommend John from Blackchurch Motors in Greenogue, Rathcoole; http://www.goldenpages.ie/Crash_Repairs/Blackchurch_Motors/IE_30982953_9999_1001

He specialises in Ford, Transits in particular. Also, he should have no problem throwing in a battery you get yourself, for which I'd recommend Transit Parts Ireland: +3534894432266

They will get you a 17volt battery for £45+£10 delivery I think it is, next day delivery aswell.
