Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Does anyone know what station will be airing the 6th season.
I've been looking through the station listings and dosen't look like it'll be on UTV Ireland or TV3 on the 20th or 21st

Hoping I'm just missing something obvious

No it doesn't seem to be unless there is a last minute change.

It's on UTV (Ulster) or ITV.

No its not the end of the world, but I like watching it on a Sunday. I'm not staying up that late to watch it on Tuesday and I'll have to avoid all spoilers of it.

Its the time for me. Finishing at half eleven on a school night is not ideal.

They're not all that long though. Usually only the first and last episodes.

That UTV Ireland was the worst thing to happen to TV in Ireland in years.

Nearly as bad are TV putting on downton so late. Sure who can stay up that late with work in the morning...

Can anyone enlighten me as to what Lady Marys visitor says first. I get the "cos I know you" bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,731 ✭✭✭brian_t

ITV have released a Press pack.

It includes interviews with Julian Fellowes and the producers and all the cast members.

It has 65 pages so lots of reading.

"Don't you know me Lady Mary? 'Cos I know you." Feels like my years of watching Brookside have come in useful after all (at least I think it's supposed to be a Liverpool accent :) ).

Oh Christ! If you go back a few pages here and watch the trailer again it looks like it... Carson takes his name down of the door. The drawing room looks like it has been emptied out.

This could be too sad to watch

Nope...just ITV Ireland. UPC customers either wait until Tuesday for TV3 or until after 10.30 tonight and utilise their broadband connections.

At this stage could they not leave Anna and Bates alone?

Also, is it really believable that a police sergeant will go from London to Yorkshire to give them the news, both times?

Well if he's on the clock it would beat a day of legitimate work.:)

What was with Anna's hair? Looked like a too blonde wig in some scenes.

I'd love to know how many takes it took for Mr. Carson to sit stonefaced through the "marital relations" thing. Priceless comedy. At the end of it all, the only thing he was sure of was he was down a glass of port.

    and
"Either way, my life's up the spout," from Mary - never heard that before

Think she looks as though she's aged a lot between the last series and last night's episode. The hair definitely contributed.

    Just saw it!

Ugh, I hate Lady Mary, she's so horrible!! So mean to poor Edith.

What age do you think Mary is meant to be at this point, early 30s??

Would Anna not visit a doctor before completing writing off having children?

Assuming its only her first miscarriage, I'm sure the writers will factor that in. Even in them far off days, doctors were well tuned into pregnancy and related complications.
She only lost the kid that morning - planning happy families would not be top of her agenda in any era or circumstance.

    Piccadilly Circus in London ;)

Bates's alibi was that he was in York (he wasn't)....I think. Stand to be corrected on that.

God this is really bad TV. I know it's essentially a glorified soap but when you compare the current series to the first the decline in quality is shocking. Some of the scenes are just so poorly written and the dialogue is all basically "THIS IS WHAT'S HAPPENING NOW, END SCENE". Pattmore and Carson trying to talk about sex was gold though :D

yes it has gone to the dogs....will stick it out til the end but only because of loyalty.

Dragging old issues on and blackmailers popping up for 5 minutes just to fill a hole in the 60 odd mins of actual "action" shows that the writing has gotten tired and should have wrapped it up last season

I know they have to work around ad breaks and that when planning the episodes but every scene is about a minute long and they're not far off having characters walk into a room do a circle and go straight back out while saying their lines. But as you say it's the last series and we might as well stick it out.

I thought it was very unlikely that people would have a conversation about infertility in the 1920s - and also, the Dowager's maid said "que sera sera" - that song was written in 1956 but I wonder if the phrase existed in common UK parlance beforehand.

I hear you, I thought it was a bit odd that Mrs Packmore's suggestion to keep the "lights off" was dismissed. I would haver thought this was very much the norm, undo the cord on the pjs, nightie up a few inches...., get back into your own bed(room)

The Kama Sutra was not written in the 1960s. And Lord Grantham was not wrong when he mentioned the Edwardians getting up to all sorts. Without TV and internet porn, you had to make do. Besides, Carson used to be on the stage and we all know what them types get up to ;).
As for having two bedrooms, that was for them that could afford such luxurious nonsense.
