Phd after pharmacy

    This is a question for the pharmacists here.Is it possible to do a phd after pharmacy?If so,is it now a good option considering things are so bad in the sector?How do u go about doing one and are the job prospects any good?

    Ya, there are a good few PhD positions available this year. A couple of the class have gone for them. The positions usually come out around February.

    a PhD doesn't have work hours. You do the work required to get it done. You might be in for 12 hours a day. Salary depends on whether you get sponsorship for the PhD or not. There is also funding available from the HRB. Not too sure about benefits.

    How interesting you find the PhD depends on your own personal likes/dislikes. There are different positions available in different settings.

    My advice would be to do a PhD in Biotechnology as that is the area of growth for the pharmaceutical industry in Ireland. Pharmacy degree with biotech would make an attractive candidate for a quality or technical role in a biopharma plant.
