Its a huge DNS f*ck up. If you go into a command window and type in

tracert www.facebook.com you should see it only goes as far as your provider and no-one else.

someone somewhere has made a huge mistake - I suspect facebook websites are up and running - its just that the internet can't find them. Sometimes it takes an hour to 8 hours for DNS to propogate around the world.

It looks bigger than this, even the facebook IP addresses are down meaning it is more than DNS.
