    http://www.caughtoffside.com/2011/01/10/tottenham-plan-ambitious-35m-duo-bid-to-help-push-for-major-honours/
Harry Redknapp is preparing bids for Lyon midfielder Jean Makoun and Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez as he looks to put the finishing touches on a White Hart Lane squad that is mounting a genuine push for major honours. The Tottenham manager is helping to make space for new additions by looking to offload, either permanently or on loan, the likes of David Bentley, Robbie Keane, Jamie O’Hara and Jonathan Woodgate.
German international Mario Gomez was not initially a first choice starter at the Allianz Arena but Louis Van Gaal has had to readjust his opinion of the lanky striker after a fine run of form, however the former Stuttgart man is still considering his options and recently stated his desire to ply his trade in England and was heavily linked with a move to Liverpool.
A move to Tottenham would surely be even more of a pull for the 25 year old who has netted 20 goals in all competitions this season. Harry Redknapp is hoping to bring in another striker in January and given that Bayern Munich are out of the title race, 14 point from runaway leaders Borussia Dortmund, Gomez may be very interested in a move to north London.
Lyon star Jean Makoun is a player that Redknapp has chased for some time and given the poor form shown by Wilson Palacios, the need for a new defensive midfielder appears to have grown and therefore the Spurs boss has been monitoring the progress of the 27 year old Cameroon international.
A move for the pair would run to around £35m and Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear that any additions will only be sanctioned once the expansive squad and its wage bill are reduced.

So, going by all the people we're targeting....we're buying an entire new team right? only missing a link to a new goalie.

I doubt that we already have so many

The Gaurdian is a very credible source though. I hope its bs anyways.

Phil Neville? No no no. What has he got to offer that we don't have in abundance already?

bit of experience and steel - charlie is too slow and hutton can't defend. also play him defensive midfielder if needs be.

why not even though a striker should be number 1 target

Because there probably isn't 2 years left in him. Funds would be better utilised by investing in an ace striker imo.

Anyone else think this is purely related to the whole Beckham circus? Getting one of his best mates on board?

What happened to the policy of not signing old players?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,467 ✭✭✭mushykeogh

Moyes has just told spurs Neville is not for sale. Just on SSN now, so we obviously inquired. Still trying to sign Beckham on loan.

Suarez rumours are gaining traction mostly because Ajax apparently need the money and Suarez is said to prefer London over Liverpool(who hes also been linked with) to raise his family

^ A fine player that we could do with at Spurs, but £70,000 a week!? He'll be a squad player at best, and I'd rather do without him tbh if thats the case!

Im truely hoping we sign a real top quality striker who would have the same impact as say Klinsmann or BerbaRAT and not a Rebrov.

Also would love Adam johnson but doubt city would sell

Is anyone else of the opinion that we should just leave Ekotto in a far away tropical accidentally on purpose and lose all his flight information? no?...damn. Any word on where Keane is headed?

    BAE rocks!!!!

Anyway cheeky bid for Torres please

Harry was at the ipswich game tonight looking at Wickham?

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,153 ✭✭✭everdead.ie

I was just thinking back on some of Harry's comments about Suarez and I looked into it and he's never deployed as a lone striker but as a second striker almost in the VDV role where we don't really need him I think that's why we probably haven't put a bid in for him, If Harry is looking for someone big to lead the line he really is looking for someone like Llorente, Vittek, Fabiano or similar?

Stop listening to Alan Hansen and friends. Bae is fantastic, sure he is a bit of a nutjob at times and has the odd bad game but who doesnt?

think we need to take the lillywhite glasses off - some time BAE is woeful - a lot of the goals we concede come from his area of the pitch - he's cool on the ball but defending leaves alot to be desired at times

I can think of 3/4 positions we need to strengthen in before I would buy a new left full in fairness.

  • Registered Users Posts: 893 ✭✭✭oppiuy

Mite have a few quid on Bae to score anytime the weekend now

a striker and two full backs

a striker and two full backs

A world class striker and a world class centre half, both before I'd buy a new left full.

The BBC Gossip Column report that Madrid are making inquiries about Klose to replace the injured Higuain.. Might pave the way for a bid for Benzema?

a striker and two full backs

That's all well and good but name them.

I can maybe only think of 3 LB's playing in England I'd have ahead of BAE.
