+1! He hasn't steered us wrong yet, and Beckham could be a great influence on lads like Lennon, Corluka, Hutton, Bale, Modric etc.

I genuinely hope for his sake that he gets the move that suits him best regardless of which club he eventually signs for.

He's never spoken ill of spurs and has been an excellent servant of the club. Sure, he's had his critics whilst with us but no-one can say that he hasn't given 100% when playing and there's a few I could name who hasn't. Our current system does not suit his playing style. That's life.

If he had ever played for Utd or even stayed with Pool for a longer period, then the Irish press would have treated him as a semi-god but Robbie scoring goals for spurs doesn't warrant a bigger headline than ryan babel deflecting in a winner with his arse or some mexican height impaired man scoring a fluke goal with the back of his head.

I for one will be sad to see him go but when he does it will be with a great thanks and best of luck and hope to see you knocking in few more for Ireland.

In an age when most mercenary footballers are kissing the badge after scoring a goal, I'd take the likes of genuine players like Robbie any day of the week.

PS: did anyone see that Steffen Iversen scored the only goal and winner on his debut for Crystal Palace on Monday. There's a blast from the past.

Looks like the rich kids are signing Dzeko.

I am consumed with furious jealousy.

Steffen Iversen? I still remember his goal against Wembeldon in 98 Carling Cup Semi-Final Replay. I can't believe he's still going as I thought he was old with us.

I hoped that Robbie would somehow turn back to the player he was in the calender year of '07. He was borderline one of the best players in England at that stage but IMHO Luverpool took something out of him and I hope he does the business for whoever he plays for.

Iverson is play in england again!

Good for him. God he's been around a long time.

re: Robbie. I must say I too have been impressed with how quiet and dignified he has been over the last few months. Considering most other 'stars' who aren't getting a game at their respective clubs would be mouthing off to the press or having their agent stir it up - its been great to see that Robbie has kept his head down and just tried to take his chance whenever he got it.

hopefully he wont turn around as soon as he has left and start bitching about the last 12 months, that would be a shame.

i have always been a fan of beckham. always.

to see him play for spurs would be ... well..... 8 yrs ago brilliant. now i dont thinm it would be any harm to have him around the club as long as he isnt a dead cert starter and on the crazy money being throwing around this forum!! ludicris....

i think he may be good for the younger lads around n i think he would generate money from shirt sales abroad but i also agree i hope harry doesnt dick around with formation or the team too often to accomadate him.

realy its outta our hands n lets leave it to the lads who earn the big money to prove why they earn that big money, if it happens n he bangs in the winner against man u n then against milan. great. if it doesnt happen well thats great too. if it happens n he flops, not great n they boys have to justify that by making it right in the summer with another signing like the van der vaart one!(please!! :) )

got back what we paid leeds all those years ago:),and what a player for Spurs, the Christmas party of 2009 didnt help his cause and Harrys love of Crouch/Defoe

Course he is, the same way he kissed the badge when spurs were his boyhood club!

6 or 7 million as being quoted is a huge price if we can get it.

I'm sure ye heard by now the deals been put on ice. Harry wont sell until he finds a replacement, SSN saying Newcastle wont let Carroll go.

3.5 strikers is plenty, especially when we're playing one up top at the moment :( . With respect to Robbie we ought to be tearing their arms off for £7m.

klose wants a move away from Bayern hes 32 but if we got him at the right price i think he could be a good signing

Well having watched Spurs for 30 years this has been the best Squad we have ever had.

I thought Keane was fantastic and at his best until just around the time we got Berbatov.
People will straight away jump at that and say he had his most productive spell with Berbatov and he did.
But the Robbie before he came was the sort who regularly got on the end of flick ons and had a great turn of speed without being a Lennon or Defoe.
He had an injury around that time and lost his real edge around that time and Berbatov came along and his holdup play, flicks and intelligence in and around the box meant Robbie didn't need to rely on acceleration to get him into goal scoring situations. Berbatov would find him with a pass more often than not.

I had always loved to have bragging rights that the Ireland Captain played for Spurs but then I met him after a pre season game v Inter in 2006 and lets just say the surly image you have of Robbie you see in the media?
Yep it's true. lol. Not a nice chappie at all around mere mortals.

So that aligned to the Liverpool bailout and the fact that he just isn't a very productive player anymore means I think we have to get rid of him quickly.

Harry likes fast players.....guys with speed, regardless of position but especially up front.
To progress and play with one up front and VDV behind we need:

Benzema - Tall, Strong, Fast, Technically brilliant
He won't be leaving Madrid with Higuain is injured
Adebayor - Tall, Strong, Fast, Technically brilliant but Lazy/Attitude Problem
He won't be coming to us from City.

Suarez is a great player....far better than Defoe.

Not a lot of proven talent for sale out there but if we do not make this window count then we will never get a better chance to stay up there challenging for the top every year.

There was no deal in place. Birmingham had not agreed to the £7 million asking price. It was the offer both clubs settled on but Birmingham have yet to make a formal bid of that price. Birmingham feel that Robbie has shown no real interest in making a move to them so unless he indicates he wants to move there will be no bid.

Absolute fcuking garbage mate. Do you know anything about Robbie or his background ? If you did, you wouldn't have posted what you did.

Well having watched Spurs for 30 years this has been the best Squad we have ever had.

Better than the early 80's under Burkinshaw? or 86/87 under Pleat? Current lot doing very well but a way to go to match either of those squads particularily up front!

Agree if we don;t get fresh bllod in up front we'll struggle to make the top4!

Cant understand why we haven't made a solid bid for Suarez, maybe Arry doesn't fancy him I suppose.

I'd normally agree with you Hatch when people post things like this about celebs but I know someone who met the entire Irish squad with a terminally ill child and he had nothing good to say about his attitude. He had the exact same impression that EireHotspur had, basically they were intruding into a world they had no place to be in was the way he described it. I think the mere mortals expression here was describing a superior attitude. On the other hand he couldn't praise the rest of the squad highly enough for the welcome and things they did for the family on the day.

Was always tempted to post it here but didn't want to come in with a sensationalist sh!t stir etc so kept it to myself. Just feel I have to say it now. Apologies for the off topic post.

    On topic now :)

I do think from a footballing perspective we could do with moving on Robbie and Pav. Crouch is serving a purpose now as a target man for VDV to feed off. That said he's not a top class striker nor is Defoe these days. I think our priorith has to be a top striker over any move for Beckham. Wages being mentioned were crazy.
