    After seeing that idiot taking off from Weston and flying right through Wednesday's thunderstorm, I thought I should post this in case he's reading.

    A very interesting article for not just pilots but passengers too.

    Not as dangerous as you might think, though you prefer not to be struck at all. They say the average airliner gets struck once a year. Usually there's no major damage, with the aluminium fuselage acting as a Faraday cage, the charge flowing around the outer surface. But some strikes can affect aircraft systems, expecially magnetic navigational instruments, but overall it's not a case of "you get hit, you die". The biggest problem with thunderstorms is the turbulence and windshear, not the lightning.
