Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

HAHAHAHA we owed you that one Steve Bruce and Sunderland! At least that goal legally should stand unlike that bloody beachball one which should have resulted in a hop ball or summit...so technically we still owe you one

Well he did stop the ball, kill it and then he kicked it back a few yards, what was he doing

Liverpool goal: I don't believe that's been given to be honest. Sunderland are awarded a free-kick midway in their own half, and Michael Turner turns and taps the ball back to his goalkeeper Simon Mignolet to take it. Dirk Kuyt pounces, collects the loose ball and runs through on goal before beating a stunned Mignolet. Referee Stuart Atwell is going to get a lot of stick for that.

    From the Bbc Website

    Sunderland free.
Turner taps it back to Mignolet to take it.
Kuyt presumes Turner has taken the free kick, latches onto the ball and scores.
    Ref says 'fair enough'.
Then I lolled. Watched replay, then lolled again.

Hmmmm...Maybe the pundits are right. These things really do even themselves out over the course of time.

Sunderland free deep deep in their own half. All outfield players walking up towards the Liverpool end awaiting hte inevitable punt. Michael Turner taps the ball back a few yards presumably thinking for the keeper to come out and take the free. Liverpool players (torres and kuyt) loitering in the area take that tap to be the free, ref agrees. Torres and Kuyt nip in and score an easy goal 2 against the keeper.

Sunderland player flicked it behind him towards keeper to take free kick in, in the way that ya hit ball to person taking free kick. Was near semi0circle, only rolled a few yards, Torres ran down, took ball as keeper walked out to him, he passed it to Kuyt who had open goal. A half-ounce of common sense it would be quickly deemed not to have been taken.

Dont see how Liverpool fans can say karma, not as if Bent meant to hit it off a beachball an idiotic fan threw out on the pitch.

It was Torres that pounced before squaring it to Kuyt.

Free out to Sunderland in their own half. Everyone pushes up. Defender comes up, kicks the ball 5 yards backwards as if he wants the keeper to take the free. Torres jumps on the ball, keeper stops thinkg the free hasn't been taken. Torres passes to Kuyt for a tap in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,560 ✭✭✭✭Kess73

Sunderland on top now. Coming through the midfield like there was nothing there.

What would the ref have stopped play for? Turner was on the spot of the free, placed the ball, then turned and hit it toward the keeper, a good 4/5 yards toward him. Didn't look like he meant it as the free but he was on the spot of the free so he can't 'take' it and say afterward he didn't mean it.

Also lollers at everyone posting the mistake of BBC saying it was Kuyt who ran on to it as if they had seen in..

Calamity by Gerard! He got saved.

Attwell needs a new job. Awful ref. Controversey just follows him.

    Watford V Reading Phantom Goal.
Forest V Derby taking away 2 legit goals from Derby.
    Liverpool V Sunderland goal..

Not in the slightest, was just pure opportunism.

I'd see it akin to a player going to take a throw in, have ball behind their head, then another player comes to take it so they throw it softly at them. Other player catches in hand and takes the throw in. Just because he's on the spot of the throw-in, doesn't mean they are taking it at all.

    nice.

it's up to the ref if it's a free.

i've seen players try do that sort of sh*t an awful lot of times before, and the ref just calls it back.
