Have the Whisker, use it for pike. I've owned a few rods over the years and none compare to the whisker. You won't be disappointed.

The Shimano baitrunner 6000 with 40lb whiplash braid coupled with the Whisker is the ultimate combo.
Welcome to Boards by the way:D

Have a look at the sonik range lad, I got a 8ft two piece rod its a joy to fish with very light but very strong. I use it for spinning worming and shrimping.
There are no suppliers in cork the nearest is nenagh but you can order online anyway, soniksports.com

I have a Daiwa Amorphous 11' 6" 1.5lbs test curve designed for stalking carp. It's my favourite all round rod.
It's a wonderful summer salmon rod for worming, shrimping or spinning., has enough power, but still gentle enough and won't rip out small hooks during the fight.
The Daiwa Barbel Specialist rod range are on similar blanks.
The Whisker range are the newer Daiws line and are really nice.

For spring salmon fishing or pike spinning I prefer heavier rods with a test curve of 1.75 - 2.25lbs. These pull in the bigger size treble hooks past the barb on the strike, and cast the heavier weights nicely, but in my view are very powerful for playing summer salmon and if used for this small hooks will pull out. The heavier rod also doesn't like casting light spinners under their own weight, and forces the use or lead.

these days after 30 years of using and trying many different rods now i only use two rods for salmon fishing a 11ft diawa whisker for worm/shrimp and a 9ft ugly stick for spinning.........both are great rods for their purpose...the diawa whisker i have is 20+ years old and they are very well made rods, i have given it some abuse over the years and its still as powerful as ever, as said above you wont go wrong with the whisker, generally diawa make very good rods.
