Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Wolves - Villa (2.05 KO)

Gerard Houllier makes his return to the PL at Moulineux and brings to an end the uncertainty and doubt cast over the beginning of Villas season.

Could we see a new and improved Heskey finally making an impression in the C&B?

Will Ash cut it as a 2nd striker?

Will Cuellar stake a claim for Dunne's spot in the first team?

All that and more, hopefully with a little more tactical ingenuity then shown by the previous full time & caretaker imcumbents in the VP hotseat.

As for Wolves, meh. Doyle and that scumbag bloke who is getting up everyones nose this season. Someone else can elaborate for me.

No Dunne, No Ireland, No Gabby.

    Cueller, Reo-Coker and Heskey instead...Hmmmm.

I hope it's injuries and not Houllier's new approach

Edit: Gabby and Ireland on bench, so maybe a match fitness thing. I really, really hope so.

2 Good balls by Albrighton and a run by Reo-Coker that must have given him a nosebleed being that far forward.

    Other than that all Wolves

Karl Henry thats it, for a Wolves fan you should know more then i do.

Your description was both rude and vague.

No doubt Villa fans believe themselves to be above this sort of thing (having to play Wolves).

Warnock looking poor again, and a very cheap yellow card to give away.

    Edit:

Oooh great header Collins good save

Downinggg!! great cross by the kid. 1-0 to the Villa

    Get In!!!!

Albrighton has impressed (while looking a little light weight), great cross and Downing smacks it in.

awesome, turned the stream on and 30secs later they score get in.

    Downing

Luke Young, a one man wall, 1st a great tackle then 3 great blocks to keep Wolves out:D

Villa doing well so far, Albrighton looking dangerous, he puts some great balls into the box, if only we had more bodies in there, Ireland would thrive on the service.

    Great double save Friedal.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,125 ✭✭✭Patser

Brilliant Friedel, Warnock all lost again

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

Heskey is probably the best option ahead of Gabby and Carew when we play Ash in behind.

Elokobi looks like a bodybuilder rather than a soccer player.

Warnock looking for an early bath?

Am I the only Villa fan who feel that Sidwell would be a better option then Reo-Coker. Almost the same limitations except that Sidwell can shoot. Reo-Coker is getting everywhere on the pitch, without doing anything. Whereas Sidwell would be just that bit stronger and bigger to have more of an impact.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,912 ✭✭✭kilburn

Sidwell sometimes looks lost, whereas Reo-Coker always seems to bang in the tackles.

Id rather NRC especially when we have a lead to protect, he covers every blade of grass, puts players under pressure etc, I'm not sure what Sidwell does, Im still waiting to find out.

Sidwell stronger and bigger than NRC? eh!?

Sky Sports is free today BTW. AFAIK. Although there could be a catch

Robbie Keane at Wolves.... It's a long time since he's been a Wolves player, wonder if he's checking out Villa for employment options.

    Edit:

No catch to Sky, I'm watching it here. I think they just want to show off what people are missing

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,017 ✭✭✭invinciblePRSTV

Surely Robbie Keane is back at his old stomping ground cheering the team who gave him his break, wouldn't fancy him at Villa now tbh. Young players and not 80k a week veterans are our future now.

And nay to Mr. anonymous Steve Sidwell to being picked ahead of NRC, if it weren't for his gingerness then you'd never even know when he's on the pitch!.

I'm on UPC and I can get Sky Sports 2, 3, 4, etc but not Sky Sports 1.......where the match is on.

    Oh oh Warnock

    From BBC:

1503: Blimey, there are quite a few former Wolves players are on the pitch at Molineux, including Robbie Keane and Joleon Lescott... I think they are there to honour Matt Murray, their former keeper who had to end a promising career prematurely because of a succession of injuries. Murray was tipped as an England international in the making so it is a shame he never got the chance to show what he could do

    What option?

Davies on, Cueller to RB, L. Young to LB. That'sa lot of change just to bring off a player. Mond you you're probably right, he's going to be sent off soon.

    Yes. Alternatively Lichaj to RB.

I like Wolves as a team but cmon lads stop letting wolves come onto you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

    Lichaj is coming on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,125 ✭✭✭Patser

    Yes. Alternatively Lichaj to RB.

Looks like you're right, he's kitting off.

Maybe time for Gabby or Ireland too. Heskey's gone missing.

Lichaj coming on it seems to replace Warnock, no surprise there. Bar his opening months at the Villa, Warnock looks increasingly like another dud signing.

    1-1, it was coming ffs.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

    Holy smokes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,535 ✭✭✭Raekwon

    1-1 :(

It was coming in all fairness

    "stunning equaliszer" my arse!

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 22,879 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

atleast the goal has come early as although i do fear Wolves will want to push on there is now plenty of time for Villa to react, Gabby and Ireland along with Lichaj please. Even though he was great in the first half i wouldent be surprised to see Alrbrighton and Heskey come off in that case

How sh1t are Villa when they take the lead, they couldnt control a game against an U12 team.
Why do we always retreat, sit back and invite teams onto us, if I can fcuking see it why cant the top guys see it.

Here's Gabby for Marc, good change.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,125 ✭✭✭Patser

Gabby on, no sign of Lichaj.

Villa lacking belief, whereas Wolves seemed to sense this and got stuck into Villa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

Dont tell me Gabby is playing on the right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭Time Magazine

Now Heskey off for Ireland, go 4-5-1 please.

You're very angry. I'm sure GH is all too aware of the problems in the team but it won't change in a week.

    Foley off Stearman on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,246 ✭✭✭Esse85

Petrov may as well be still in the dressing room.

    This is awful.

Take off Heskey, bring on Ireland. Play Gabby up top and play Ireland behing him with Ash back on the wing.
