Start by learning your verbs and prepositions inside out and back to front!

most people have the same problem ! The French exam is quite difficult to prepare for as you dont really know what to expect in terms of the vague syllabus and the fluctuating nature of the standard of the exam itself. The fact is most people sit down to study French and actually do themselves no good and waste time. Your study must ALWAYS be targeted at one area of the exam, otherwise, you simply will not get a high grade.

    (1) - The understanding of French in "Daily" use. This concerns the written comprehension and auditive comprehension. The best method to prepare for this section is twofold. 1) Do every single past paper reading comprehension. They will seem incredibly hard at first. Get a hardback and any word you dont understand take note of. Work with the marking schemes. Make sure you can regognise every verb what tense it is. Actively ask yourself what type of word each word is (ie verb adverb adjective). work with the marking schemes. 2) Know your verbs and grammar inside out. It is essential to tackling the comprehenisions.

The Auditive Comprehension according to the 2006 Chief Examiner's report is the worst answered question. Listen to French TV and Radio everyday and this will improve. Again do every exam q u can.

    (2) - The formulation of correct, idiomatic and logical french. This applies to the oral and written exams Your preparation should be writing as many narrative and abstract topics essays as you can. get them corrected by your teacher. Find a book with some good vocabulary ( Cian Hogan's Rapid Revision is particularly helpful). all the vocabulary is reuseable. Prepare an Oral Script and work on your accent.

Finally remember that many students with almost fluent french are regularly deprived of higher grades because of poor exam technique !!!!!!
