What is the correct term?

My understanding of it is that a paedophile is someone who likes kids (in a sexual way, but hasn't had sex with them).
A Pederast is someone who has sex with kids.

And a pedophile is someone abhorred by people who can't spell.

Maybe I'm wrong.
Someone enlighten me.

Paedophile is someone who has a sexual interest in pre-pubescent kids, whether acted upon or not.

A pederast is someone with a sexual interest in slightly older 'kids' i.e. teens, more often than not boys.

Seriously though, my heart goes out to anyone who is hit with the reality that they find children sexually desirable - what a miserable burden to have landed on you. Sympathy over and out though if a person actually acts on that feeling.

It's weird how there are pedophiles. Like throughout the animal kingdom homosexuality is common enough but there has not been a case of an animal having sex with a child in the animal kingdom.

It is boggling why an adult would find a child attractive. I would lean towards it's a mental disorder.

No precedent for this in our jurisdiction yet as far as I am aware, not too mention that in other jursidictions from what I remember such cases have only really been taken seriously when the post has been pre-approved prior to appearing to other users, this isn't the case with boards.ie.

Child molester would be more appropriate.
Where I was born, a homosexual is called a 'homophile', which means 'lover of same sex'.

Mental disposition me arse. Mental illness, maybe. Disposition, as in a correctly functioning, but different, brain? No. IMO unless you are attracted to the opposite sex and are what joe public would describe as being "straight", then there is some kind of mental illness going on.

So to answer your question, are paedophiles scum? They may be mentally ill, they may not. But if they know what they're doing, yes, they're scum.

Again, you're assuming that being a paedophile necessitates rape and molestation and all the other horrible things that you hear about in the news. Johro said it perfectly. Sure, there's no way to change the way a paedophile might think or feel, but there HAVE to be some paedophiles who know that their inherent feelings are inappropriate and unfair and know how to keep them to themselves.

Sexual drives are our most uncontrolable - I think they need to be protected from society and themselves. too many otherwise top flight people - judges etc - throw their lives away to just look at child porn. Same as so many people have unsafe flings or commit adultery. It's primal.

TBH Homosexuality is widespread in the animal kingdom, the evidence points towards pedophilia only existing in humans.

That's why I think it is a mental disorder, since nature hasn't programmed adults to have sex with children.
