Yeah got the email from Warp sometime in August and they had a specific release date for the limited edition box set - you had to go online at I think 3pm on the 26th of August to get one of only 250 copies for the world... signed by Eno and all sorts of tempting extras. I went online thinking I might go for it till I saw it was 350 quid! Don't even know what it sounds like yet, no promos or clips that I've seen online...

Interesting to see also that the limited edition box set it still available, a month later! Clearly lots of others aren't tempted to spend 350 without a least an idea of what it sounds like. Surprised though, I actually would have thought 350 copies would move quickly enough given the fact that it is Eno - to be honest if I could afford it I probably would, it will become a collectors item.

I've no interest in collectors' items myself but I would love some idea of what this record is going to sound like. Not that I think Warp should spoil the surprise just to satisfy my, or anyone's, curiosity - quite the opposite. I've gladly preordered a copy of the CD (at the much more reasonable price of €11.99).

The album features Jon Hopkins, whose stuff I've been checking out on MySpace. Some of it is rather lovely - especially "Vessel":

Cool cheers, must check that out so - might give some indication of what to expect!

"BOREDOMS TAKE LEISURELY DRIVE WITH ZOVIET:FRANCE & END UP TOOLING DOWN NEU!-BAHN" would be my pointless tabloid headline for that.

    Nice.

I think this has potential to be an album of the year from me  Very interesting by the sounds of it - I love the gritty quality. In a way it kind of reminds me of his own solo records of the 70s which were very rough and ready in terms of production style. I wonder what degree of influence Eno himself had over the record?

Review and complete stream of the album on CDM. Sounds unbelievable! Will treat myself to this over the next few days I think ;)

Which copy did you get Ghost Rider - the vinyl or disc, or one of the luxurious box set packages? ;)

No, much as I'd liked the look of the artwork (and it is lovely in the flesh) I couldn't bring myself to go for the posh option. I plumped for the CD & download option.

My first impressions of this are quite good. I'd guess that it's a conscious departure on Eno's part to balance a contemporary electronica sound pallet with a "live band" feel. (There are two collaborators, and I'd guess much of the material originated in jamming sessions.) There are breakbeats, bits of energetic Warp-style electronica, washes of synths in a dark-ish mood. There are also Krautrock influences. It's definitely a bit noodly at times and doesn't always achieve the urgency its occasional extended workouts suggest it thinks it has achieved (if you know what I mean). But the more reflective stuff seems to work well - certainly it feels more single-minded way than the full-on "band" stuff.

Those are just first impressions, bear in mind.
