I then think have I put the correct password in? SO I press the 'Forgot your password' which as you would think, would ask you your security question......NO, it didn't...IT told me that it would send me an email to my hotmail account to help reset the password..................Sweet FNJ ....

Because it's terrible, slow, and it's microsoft. And it's terrible.

    Did I mention, it's terrible?

Gmail is way lighter, has far more features and is constantly updated with cool new stuff. Why anyone would be on hotmail of all things in 2010 is well beyond me. Why torture yourself?!

Clearly advertising maniacs, what with their big flashy popups and sound ads... oh, wait.

Not to mention they freely allow use of adblock plugins in Chrome. In fact, adblock plugins are posted on the official Chrome extensions website.

And they have their browser available for open source.

But CLEARLY, they're just like microsoft.. except they cater to their customers and don't force stuff down their throat.

    Plus:
    1) Multiple inboxes.
    2) Multiple account switching.
    3) Free phone calls to the US & Canada from anywhere in the world right in your browser.
    4) Priority inbox.
    5) Labs.

Do I really need to go on?

I use hotmail and I've never had any trouble with it. Having said that I wouldn't have any problem moving to gmail but I've been using hotmail for 10 years now and the effort involved in moving everything to gmail wouldn't be worth it.

All I want is is send and receive emails, not check my multiple inboxes, then my priority inbox, then switch my account to check more inboxes, while calling someone in the US.

I still use my original hotmail account from 1995! But only for crap that makes you sign up. I sign up using hotmail, get the approving email + link then allow it to be filled with spam. :D

You can set it up so it forwards everything in your hotmail inbox to your gmail inbox, and you can even set up an inbox in gmail just for your hotmail.

    Switch. You'll be better off.

Their browser Chrome is not open source, its based off their Chromium open source project with extra spyware included.

Every browser that allows extensions has an adblock plugins so what?

They are just like Microsoft in that they are interested in making profits for their shareholders. Google Buzz was forced into my gmail, also chat and other crap that slows it down.

    1) You really cant do that on hotmail or yahoo mail, its just folders?
    2) For the last 2 months or so, meh
    3) How?
    4) Its not that great, plus its based on their crap spam filter that keeps marking stuff as spam that's not spam
    5) More stuff to slow it down

    Competition is good.

Gmail's fair quick for me! What theme are you using/what are your specs? Much quicker than hotmail, anyway.

Chrome is based off of Chromium. Chromium is still their browser, and it's open source. There's loads of distros of it. I think it's incredible that such a massive company actually pulled something like that, to be honest, generally the whole open source thing was left to the Linux kids and the rest of us didn't have much chance.

    1) Just folders on any other client I've found outside of Gmail, yep. Multiple inboxes is soooooo handy, don't know what I'd do without it now tbh.
    2) I find it quite handy as I have multiple accounts with google for different things.
    3) They installed it into the in-browser chat. Oddly, I have it in one account but not the other, but I think that's just because I have my accounts joined anyway. I've had many hour-long talks with my mother (who I haven't seen in over a year) since its inception! I think it's class! I've no idea how they're getting away with it, mind, but I'm not complaining for a second.
    4) Fair enough. I don't use it, but it's been incredibly useful for some of my friends.
    5) Labs is my favourite part about gmail. And I've not noticed anything slowing, I'm using quite a few. Plus an image-heavy theme.

You're aware you can turn off Buzz, Wave and Chat in your gmail, right?

I don't care if they make money. That's what business do. They make money, and in return, I get fantastic products for absolutely no cost to me. They provide us with Youtube, a great search engine, a great browser, a great email client, great voice chat client, docs, etc. They listen actively to their userbase and give them the opportunity to work together with them such as the open source project.

When was the last time Microsoft released anything even remotely productive that wasn't an OS (and even then, they're debatable)? Bing? Is that all? And it's still much worse than Google.

Complain all you want, but they're incredible at what they do.

You should switch to gmail (everyone should). I know, I resisted switching because I was happy with hotmail and had all my historic correspondence there. I had a gmail account for I'd say a year before I started using it but once you do you'll notice how it's just a much better web e-mail solution.

I find it takes ages to first load and to switch folders. I have buzz turned off, and using the default theme. I have tried other browsers/computers/internet connections its still the same. I have no experience of other similar webmail providers so cant tell if its slower than hotmail etc.
Chrome is based off of Chromium. Chromium is still their browser, and it's open source. There's loads of distros of it. I think it's incredible that such a massive company actually pulled something like that, to be honest, generally the whole open source thing was left to the Linux kids and the rest of us didn't have much chance.
They just copped Apple/Mozilla. Apples browser engine Webkit is open source, and now Google are using it for Chrome. Apple is a big company?
    3) They installed it into the in-browser chat. Oddly, I have it in one account but not the other, but I think that's just because I have my accounts joined anyway. Be nice if they enabled it for me :)

I don't care if they make money either, they have some great services. I just don't get the Google can do no wrong attitude from some people.
When was the last time Microsoft released anything even remotely productive that wasn't an OS (and even then, they're debatable)? Bing? Is that all? And it's still much worse than Google.

They invented a way to put batteries in gadgets either way round :D

Microsoft's online docs is better than google docs in my opinion. All their on-line services are excellent actually, i think they are bigger than Google in selling online services. you know cloud computing the thing google is supposed to be the leader in. They actually get payed for their services unlike Google.
Don't know much about Bing but before Bing, Google hardly ever updated their search. Since Bing they have made tonnes of changes.
Complain all you want, but they're incredible at what they do.
There good at what they do. Im not complaining (except maybe gmail could load a bit faster for me :)) They make some good stuff but their not the only ones. Like i said competition is good.

I got one of them stupid quiz letter guessing games today when I went to go in to my hotmail...damn things are getting harder! Took me about 3 goes to get it right! Although the other day I was loggin in to something, can't mind what it was now, but it had the 2 word thingy...I've never been so frustrated at something on the webs in my life... every single one of them it gave me was practically impossible to decipher, ended up I had to use the little sound thingy for peope who need glasses :o

On the battle of the mail clients...meh, I couldn't care less really. All I need to do is read a couple of emails, delete the rest, and occassionally reply to one or two. Hotmail does all of the above, therefore hotmail does rightly for me.

Gmail all the way. I get my other emails from outlook and hotmail accounts forwarded to my gmail. There is quite a lot of storage and you can send larger files than hotmail. The search function is much better too. Gmail for mobiles is very handy too. The only problem I have with it was last Friday it was hacked and there have been a few starnge things going on with it since such as the camera symbol next to my name which normally should be only a dot. I had to give gmail my number just to get it reactivated.
