Got X-Ray on foot after physio [and later Doc] was wondering if the sudden crazy pain in foot could have been the pins and plates I have had in there for 15+ years after horrible rugby related leg break...

Results back, that's not the reason. So no easy answers I'm afraid.

So with knee and left foot clearly not right Im not sure what to do. Stay resting forever until right or start the whole "MRI" and medical money pit?

Will mull it over, over the weekend.

Bah - I want to run again

Such a shame vagga but stay positive and sensible and you'll be up and flying for an all out attack on 2012 :D

First run since marathon - 2 miles a slow and simple test of knee

Alas, knee is still not right, while it was sore at no stage it felt weak and I could feel it all the way around run, from start to end.

I think you're on 999 miles for the year ...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,687 ✭✭✭tHE vAGGABOND

    3 miles in 29 mins

Another test of knee. So while its not 100%, its very nearly there. Not sore at all, before/during or after, Im just aware its there when running, in a taper madness kind of way - so I will take it easy for next week or two, but do a few short runs like this to get some fitness back into the legs and get some pounds off my ass :)

Oh, and thats 1000 miles for the year - which is nice

3.5 miles in 31 minutes odd

Im actually going to switch to KM's, since I have two marathons in europe as my goals for the year, and maybe a lash at 5k and 10k PBs - so running in KM's makes sense :)

    No knee trouble?

Where in the poem does Robert Frost says 'And many kms before i sleep'?

This km thing is wrongness, end of. Tis the start of a slippery slope like wearing sunglasses on a cloudy day. Where will it all end?

When I lived in Italy, some of the locals would wear sunglasses in the cinema . They'd also drink half litres of beer instead of pints. It's a slippery slope I tell ya

My super dooper physio has me on a set of leg and core exercises as often as I can [but at least every day], and has a limit on the miles on my running this week, and only building the miles up very slowly

I'm in London with work the week before Christmas, staying right beside regents park - so plan to do several longer runs over there as a true test [as I wont have a wild amount else to do at times]

The name of the game is building up the whole area and getting it strong. I want the knee right before starting into Paris training [12 week P&D 55 mile plan was the plan, not really thought about it, may just modify that plan, but use it as a base]

    re: Miles v's KM's
Im crap at maths so converting on the fly is not an option, and my two "Ireland" secondary goals for 2012 are 5k and 10k PB's, my two big goal races in 2012 are Paris and Berlin which both mark the course in KM's - so it makes sense to me anyway :)

As do we, ever managed to fit a pint bottle of Bulmers into a pint glass?

Are you gonna make it to the beers tomorrow?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,687 ✭✭✭tHE vAGGABOND

Missed the beers as I had a long standing commitment for baby sitting my nephews. Im sure it was a wild night. We were watching movies and making flapjacks - just as messy [but a different kind of messy!!!!].

Sunday morning I did just over 6km [4 miles] in 36 odd minutes. Did the run from GF's house, so no garmin or anything like that.

7km in a shade just over 40 mins

Garmin starting to go mad, so time to write a letter to Santa :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,687 ✭✭✭tHE vAGGABOND

    Saturday Morning:
40 min odd run in and around the backroads around Killorglin - I would guess around 7 km's

[Wearing a pair of shorts I borrowed from HER - thank god no one was awake, had a phone or saw me!  :P]

    Sunday:
7kms in and around town in 40 odd minutes

Had not planned to run as I have a million things to do before going to London in the morning, but had to run off some of the food and drink excess of weekend, let alone the 4+ hour drive home!

Just came across your thread and am glad someone in same boat as me.did first marathon in dub this yr - only started training long runs in sept!!!.wasn't even gona do marathon especially when ex of mine who I got into running and entered it kept telling me that I wasn't able all summer but that's another story.2 years ago I used to b so fit before I met ex and was running every weekend with running club but when I met him I got so lazy and thought little of myself that I gained weight and became so negative.anyway to make long story short I joined up local running club after I did half marathon in Phoenix park in sept and they convinced me to maratho.thought was a nutter but so glad I did marathon.the long runs on sat helped me and i started hot yoga to help stamina.never experienced anything like the marathon - crowds were fantastic and such a good buzz :) strarted with 4 hr pacers but thought I wud never keep up with them.I went out slow, caught up with 4 hr pacers and around mile 20 I passed them out!!have to say the pacers were brill!!!
Ended up doing marathon in 3 hrs 58 officially - came up 3 hrs 52 first cos I had moved up to 4 hr group :)
Anyway after all the euphoria I really suffered post mar blues - ended up with a knee injury and don't feel good physically or mentally :( went to lovely Physio and he gave me few exercises but have been so fed up that I haven't really done them.managed to do 3 mile run on my own but leg got sore again - not as bad as first time I went out after marathon.like your self I am eating the same as I was doing marathon training - even more and have gained weight.
It's all coming from a mental view but after reading your posts I have kicked myself up the arse and gonna get back into plan I had before marathon mentally :)
Am a non drinker for years but started to go out every weekend post marathon and started drinking again but went to Imelda may concert fri and stayed on the diet coke and have to say had a ball - even had a great nite in the city after - def go and see her!!!
Anyway will keep following ur posts and let u kno how am getting on.
    Keep positive!!!!
Sorry for very long long post but needed to say all that to show you that am in the same boat as u with running.no snow this yr so no excuse not to get out there :)

GalwayHooker - I love reading posts like that. I could have written that myself, between the injury and the blues :)

Good man and keep on going :)

Im in London for a week with work, right beside Regents Park, which is handy :)

I used to live around here and played Rugby and Aussie Rules in Regents Park when I was fat and unfit, so I did not really play tbh, I drank & socialised and made up numbers on the field if Im honest ;)

Tues Morning : 10k in 57 mins or so - around many places with memories, the places we did training, the places we played games, and out and back by some of the pubs we drank in - best [as in most fun & longest] run since August/Sept tbh

This Morn: 9k in 50 mins or so

Was supposed to meet Brian for a run later, but awoke at 6.30, wide awake, and right beside the office so was not sitting around house or office for hours - so went for the run [sorry Brian].

Feck me, the sight of London lighting up, and the sun rising behind the buildings is amazing.
I was wearing a Athlone 3/4 shirt while running and saw a girl out wearing one too - small world this running lark :pac:

Christ, sure I haven't done a thing. I'll be stopping off in Newry on the way up north on saturday morning, same as I always do :p

9k this morning in 52 odd minutes..

Working off some XMas excesses and also realizing I have to get my arse in gear for Paris training, even if Im happy to saunter around and experience it, rather than race :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,687 ✭✭✭tHE vAGGABOND

    10k in 55 minutes

Out to Heuston Station, and was 50/50 about the park or down the quays - but the quays won :)

    Fantastic morning for running.

Fitness is deffo coming back, but not all there at all - hard work at times out there, taking that 4/5 weeks off basically reset me to zero fitness compared to where I was.

Knees seem fine, fingers crossed :)

Just did 3 mile loop in my home place and no pain in knee - yay!!Havent done that loop since before marathon so delighted.Took it easy at steep hill - know cant get too carried away as that is what gave me injury in first place.Def putting my name down for race that takes part in my local village - the kinvara rock and road race.Didnt run it last yr as thought i wud nt be able for it last yr and then i end up doing Dublin city marathon!!Heard its meant to be well organised and good race.
