Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey all,

I'm looking for a monitor that can double up as second monitor for my laptop and also for gaming on my Xbox.

My question is will any monitor with a HDMI port be able to work with an Xbox 360? I thought they would, but heard that some only have HDMI output ports, and I need an input port instead?

Thanks for your help. Also, if you have any recommendations for a good monitor in the range of 19-22" for about €250, they would be appreciated :)

    Thanks

You could get a monitor with 2 ports dvi and vga ,then buy a vga xbox cable, thats what i use.USE dvi for pc,vga for xbox.you just have to check ,has your xbox got hdmi out,i think all new ones have it.
SEE here http://www.elara.ie/products/detailsfullat.asp?productcode=MMEB921167#spec full 1080p,hd, vga, dvi, hdmi, also audio in.
if you get this, you could use hdmi cable for the xbox, older xbox 360,s have no hdmi port.
you may need to install a monitor device driver on the pc to use the monitor at the proper resolution

Do you need a monitor with speakers or have you a seperate sound system?

If no speakers are required, I use this excellent 22" LG for both my Xbox (occasionally) and my Desktop monitor (mostly) it has selectable DVI and HDMI inputs so I use the DVI for the PC and HDMI for the Xbox.

With speakers you are looking at about an extra 30 or thereabouts (and bonus tv tuner)

If you have a budget of 250 then a 24" for 229euros + shipping may be worth considering (speakerless)

IF the xbox has no hdmi, use vga, you,ll have to buy a vga cable, mine cost 24euro in GAME shop.IT gives a superb display on my monitor, i set the av output to 720p mode in the dashboard ,xbox, settings,av,video .i find 22 inch widescreen, fine ,for pc ,xbox use.

Those monitors look great value (I was originally looking at the dell ultrasharp monitors).

I am thinking about getting the monitor with the speakers, that or a pair of headphones.

Oh and yeah, my xbox is the latest version, so it supports HDMI.

Thanks again for the help and suggestions :)

MAY AS WELL get a monitor that has speakers, using a 3.5mm double connector, its possible to have pc sound, xbox sound connected to 1 sound input,i prefer to have separate speakers for the pc,as i listen to music from the pcwhen playing xbox games.

Monitors built in speakers are normally crap, i never bother with them.

Yeah I suppose they are alright. I could get a seperate pair of speakers.

Do I need any special connectors for the speaker to connect to the xbox?

Don't know what I was smoking this morning but that LG 24" I linked to this morning is VGA only :o. Removing from my other post for the correct one DVI/HDMI which is actually 229 euro.

The 22" LG has a 3.5 mm audio output jack that I use to connect it to my Logitech 2.1 PC speakers / headphones while playing the xbox (Basically is passthrough of the HDMI audio).

Haven't looked at the back of my xbox in a while :P I forget if there are alternative audio options available, must look this evening.

Just an update, I got the LG 22" monitor (without the speakers) and it's a great monitor for both gaming and working on (with photoshop etc). Loving it at the moment :)

    Thanks everybody, especially marco_polo!
