Affordable Housing

Hi,


Just looking into this at the minute.
Myself and my Fiancee are looking into it and are wondering the main advantages of it.
Dublin City Council seem to be limited to Apartments and we are more interested in a house.
Do DCC have many houses from time to time ?
How long does the whole process generally take ?
Aside from the cheaper deposit is the house/apartment cheaper too ?
Would we borrow the same amount if we went the normal route ?
Has anyone here gone for it if so can they offer any advice??

Actually, I do not see any houses available in DCC area. You're better off going out to the likes of Fingal http://www.affordablehome.ie/My-Local-Authority/Fingal-County-Council.aspx

They are usually either market price without clawback or under market price with clawback, its explained on the sites.

The main advantage is the relatively low deposit, but the problem is affordable houses are mostly going above the actual market value, as private sellers have more freedom to change price since the meltdown. I would absolutely sincerely advise you not to get tied into an affordable house at the moment, if ever. They're more an albatross than anything.
