Advice needed for Krakow!!

Heading to Krakow in 2 weeks for a long weekend. Staying in an apartment in the city centre, gonna visit the concentration camp, was wondering does any1 know if the salt mines are any good and worth a visit?? Also I heard you can get the train to Auschwitz and just join any tour.. any1 know if thats true?? Will it be cold…
