We found a good Irish bar (cant remember name)but food was to die for and staff lovely.

    Maybe it was Nic Nowego?
I like it because it's actually like a pub in Ireland, not a diddlee eye shamrocky grotto.
    Champion Irish breakfast there.

    Hi Unwilling

I stayed in the Sheraton and found it to be very comfortable etc. The rooms at the front have views of the river and the castle. Service was very attentive and the hotel had all the facilities you can need.

I haven't stayed in either hotel you have mentioned so can't comment, sorry.

I'd second the Sheraton, stayed there for four nights in 2007 and was very pleased with it overall. Good location, large rooms and excellent facilities.

With regard Andels, I haven't stayed in the one in Krakow but have stayed twice in the Prague one and couldn't fault it, modern rooms with a cool vibe.

A friend of mine stayed in the Wentzl on a second honeymoon kind of trip.
She adored it. Very different to the modern type of hotel.

    Hi guys,

Looking into going to Krakow, sounds fantastic! Can anyone recommend where to stay? Hotels etc? Wheres the best area to stay?

I've looked up apartments but would hesitate to book one, how do you know that they are genuine? Booking a hotel seems much more secure for some reason but am open to correction on this. Would love any suggestions :)

Am heading here in March. There seems to be a lot of tourist companies offering the trips we want to see. Auschwitz,Salt Mines, Communist Tour.

Looking for some advice on the best company to use.We are staying in Andels Hotel. Also will be arriving late at night and will be looking to get an airport pick up.Any recommendations?

    Thanks

We used escape2poland and they were excellent. They do all the usual tours and i think if you book two trips with them theres a free airport pick up and return. On time and nice drivers and good cars.Great place we shall return. We stayed in red brick apts...Fantastic.

    Hi all,
Im just back from a 5 day trip to Krakow and loved it.
We stayed at a great little Hotel, called Hotel Benefic.
    http://www.hotelbenefis.pl

The hotel is elegantly decorated and spotlessly clean. Its not the most fancy hotel with no restaurant, or pool etc. But its a perfect location to explore the great city, and the staff were so friendly.
    I couldn't recommend it enough!
It felt, safe and comfortable and relaxing.

We did the tours of Auschwitz etc and booked through the hotel...was cheaper than most places, and very handy.

A good tip: keep an eye out for free guided tours in the main square. You just join where you like and leave where you like and pay a tip.
We joined one with the intention of staying a few minutes, but spent half a day with our guide. - It was an amazing day!
    And please tip! (",)

Just back from an amazing four nights in Krakow. We stayed in this hotel which was extremely cheap (approx €16 per person per night with buffet breakfast and use of pool/spa.) It was about 15 minutes tram ride from the city centre, the tram stop was right outside the hotel and so so cheap.

We prebooked a taxi with Krakow Shuttle that took us straight to our hotel for only 16e return for four of us.

One thing I'd highly recommend, as well as the usual Salt Mines etc is a visit to a place called Zakopane. It's about two hours bus journey from the city centre (very frequent and less than €10 return). For less than €16 you can get a one hour ski/snowboard lesson, with an English instructor including use of the ski lifts and rent of equipment. It was amazing and the town is great too with some lovely restaurants.

Oh and I'd also recommend a great restaurant right in the city centre called the Rocking Horse.

I absolutely loved Krakow, wish I was still there now *sigh*

Sorry bringing up an old thread here, i just googled this place and it closed some time back which is a pity as it sounded like a great spot. Im going over with the missus the end of this month. Can anyone recommend similar spots to this that do good food and any quirky bars worth visiting. I like to venture off the beaten track so any recommendations? :)

Tom closed Nic Nowego as the landlord put the rent up to something crazy but he now has a Milk Bar (Bar Mleczny - along the lines of the old cheap soviet-style canteens - cheap and hearty) on the same street.

If you'd like a super cheap authentic Polish eating experience, go to Kuchnia u Doroty on Augustianska (not far from Wawel Castle).
