Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi,

Just thought I'd drop by here again to give you a quick update and a thanks. I bought a bike about eight months ago through the cycle to work scheme (Trek 1.5 Road) and I was given some sound advise here during my purchase. I used to be in a cycling club when I was younger, and loved it, so it was a perfect excuse to get me back on the saddle and you guys and girls definitely gave me that extra push needed to go out and buy a bike.

I cycle to work every day now, Killester to Cabinteely. Starting off it took me 45 - 50 minutes but I've managed to average about 40 minutes now. I actually broke my record on Monday thanks to a cyclist who most likely is on here, getting to Cabinteely in 36 minutes (including the 3 or so minute stop at the Merrion Gates spent waiting for a Dart to pass). The guy, who had a tattoo on his lower left calf of what I think was a pedal, passed me as we cut through the wall at the East Link toll bridge. Being my competitive self I kept with him from there up to the Merrion Gates. He was the fastest cyclist I've cycled behind to date on my journeys to work in the morning so I was delighted with the break when the gates came down to be honest! Anyway, when we took off again I kept with him up as far as the junction at Booterstown dart station. Here is where my competitiveness ruled over my sanity. He slowed at the lights and although I was feeling the burn quite a bit I decided to pass him. The rest of my cycle was spent agonisingly trying to keep ahead. It wasn't until I was nearly in Deansgrange that I realised he wasn't behind me anymore and had probably turned off at Blackrock or something! So if your here, thanks for helping me set my best time but not for the burning thighs I suffered for the follow hours in work!

So anyway, thanks all for the advise that you gave me the extra push that was needed to get me back out there on two wheels, I'm still going.

Oh and just so you know, if anyone has seen me out on the road and has wondered why in Gods name is he wearing a black wooly hat he must be roasting, it's to stop sweat rolling in to my eyes. If only I could pull off a headband like Richard Simmons does...

Good on ya, keep it going...

Next time you meet yer man, try to get a cycle going of drafting. 1 or 2 minutes in front alternating will increase both your speeds and give both of you a rest in between. This is generally considered the polite thing to do.

I don't worry too hard about the sweat in the summer time but I use a headband under my helmet in the winter for warmth (though it does the sweat thing too).

Get one of these. I find them pretty good at keeping sweat out of your eyes.

off topic - for sweat catching reason I started wearing a cycle cap earlier this year but find the angle of the peak blocks my vision so during dry weather I wear it backwards and in the rain I turn up the peak up. is this completely against the euro rules?

Entirely. You must work on your neck flexibility. Please take off the cap and do not wear it again until you are ready..
