    Hi,

I'm buying an item off someone and they want me to transfer money into there Bank of Ireland account.

Is this safe? Have I any comeback if I don't receive the item?

    Thanks

Safer than western union or transferring abroad, if in Ireland you can sue them if the goods are not received.

It's safe, in so far as you will be able to prove that the money was sent to the account and it's highly unlikely to go missing en route.

However, it's the electronic equivalent of sending cash. There's absolutely no mechanism for forcing a charge-back as there would be on a credit card.

Online transactions always require a bit of trust

You could also just insist on paying by PayPal.
