    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Now google the "Lug walk" :p

Find it hard to believe that the summit of each of those mountains could be reached in 15 hours. You'd want to be super fit.

It's certainly doable, I did it in 14:39 back in 2013 in not great conditions, but some people do it in a lot less.

To be honest, the Maamturks which is a shorter distance but with a comparable ascent is much more difficult, largely because the ascents are steeper and in larger "lumps", but the terrain is more difficult, and the weather a bit more unpredictable given the time of the year.

I plan on doing both this year to celebrate my 60th birthday :D

I'd like to test myself at the Art O'Neill Challenge.

I've read that it is fairly tough.
I've considered it, but the road walk at the start would finish me off. I can walk forever on mountainous terrain, but even 10km along a road and I'm done for.

    Best of luck with Both!

I agree, the maanturks is a mammoth challenge, the terrain alone would zap the energy from you. I'm considering doing the lug walk, Tom Crean and the Seven Sevens this year. Lets see how many of them I make it to!

I've never done the Tom Crean but some of my walking colleagues do it regularly, also the Joyce Country Challenge and the Comeragh Crossing (which I have done).

I've not done the Seven Sevens but have done the whole Mourne Wall walk which is a bit longer I think. It used to be an organized challenge walk a while ago but is no longer. It's pretty easy to just do it by yourself though and navigation is a doddle.

I did the Seven Sevens last year and really enjoyed it, had a lovely day for it too, quite dull but mainly dry. Not sure how'd I'd feel about it is the weather was very wet. Being out in rain is ok for a few hours but 10+ hours is a difference story

    As Blacklilly said.

Best of luck with both and have a good birthday, that's a great way to mark your 60th.

    Lug 11AM today

    409014.jpg

Very basic photo, but if you look closely you can see there were some tiny rays of sunshine coming through. Quite unusual up there in a near total white out.

Probably as cold as it ever gets up there :D

What was it like as a climb?

Super easy. I went up via Slievemaan, which is the shortest and easiest way up Lug. There is a path most of the way up, even in near zero visibility it's easy to follow (just keep going up). Everything was frozen solid, so no muck / bog at all to sink into :)

Going back down off Lug is always a bit tricky when there is no visibility, you need GPS or map + compass to find the path again.

Great pic! Not a sign of that snow by the time we got there at around 2pm. Only some snow left along the edge of the south prison.

Kelly's Lough was looking quite beautiful too ...

Was in Westport over the weekend. With the sunset that was on offer, I really wish that I had taken on the Reek instead of indulging on Clare Island salmon...

A favourable forecast whilst I was in Westport was a good chance to take on the Reek when dry.

Been to Carlingford on last weekend.
Beautifull weather, lovely town, great hiking on Slieve Foye.
At the end of the climb,we have been blessed with a gorgeous rainbow, one end in the middle of house in village while the other end was in the touch of our hands,on the hills...

I have a movie recorded on the phone,i will convert and upload to YT.

    Enjoy it.
