What other mountain scenes do people think of as iconic?

The usual iconic view from the top of Lug

If we are talking iconic mountain vistas I'd say El Capitan in Yosemite, the vista from aguille du midi, north face of the Ben are iconic in their own way.

    Where is this?

    383400.jpg

Hint 1: very close to the Wicklow / Dublin border
Hint 2: I doubt there is a single tree within a kilometer from these trees

The bird in the first photo is an Alpine Chough by the way, in case you didn't know.

I'm a terrible photographer but I just wanted to share these taken from near Barnacullian

    401949.jpg

    And Tonelagee

    401950.jpg

This morning. It looked like I was the only person up on these mountains. On a beautiful winters day like today. Unbelievable. But I'm not complaining :)

Looks great! I've been eyeing up Kippure from my house all day both I don't have time this weekend!

Aye. Like yourself, I'm lucky that I can see the Dublin mountains from my house.

Kippure is mostly covered from view by the other mountains. Apart from the mast of course! Seehan is far more prominent from here and the summit area covered in snow / ice yesterday gave me the urge to go. Coupled with the good weather forecast for this morning :)

And of course the prospect of a severe spin in the Porsche :D

Cold weather convertible action, and in the Wicklow mountains no less. We have more in common than I thought. :D

I think I can work out where you live from that post too. ;)

Heat blasting at full, but I wasn't wearing gloves. At certain speeds when the outside temp was barely 0 degrees, I can assure you it wasn't comfortably warm :p

It's worth it for the denser air, all that extra power. :pac:

The last thing that we need right now in this thread are pictures of cars in remote car parks up the mountains.

Hahaha, alright then we'll try something else. :p

Looks like you were there a few hours after me, Alun? I was at the summit of Tonelagee at 12 but there was not much visibility yet. It looked like it was clearing a bit later.

We were at the summit of Mullaghcleevaun at around 12.45, came up from Annalecka Bridge. Saw one set of footprints coming down from the summit to Falls Brook through one of the gullies, maybe that was you! Visibility wasn't great as we headed for the summit but cleared when we eventually got there.

You were in the big-ish group starting around 10AM then? :D

I wonder why I didn't see the group again, but now I know you went north west into the forest

I drove past and started from the same forest about a km further up, but went up onto the ridge where the East West map says "Hubbart's Hollow". Then followed the ridge down to Stoney Top and Tonelagee, and down into the Wicklow Gap and walk back on the road
