Also Im looking to develop a site aimed at the UK market. Should I ideally have it hosted by a UK company or will that matter (as long as I have UK as the region in the script)

I regards to the UK thing, no it won't matter. Just make sure you've added the site to google webmaster tools and selected the uk as your target. Having a .co.uk domain for it would help too.
