I'm going to be in Melbourne for 3 weeks over Xmas. Any specific recommendations on places to go or things worth doing there?

What to in Melbourne for 3 weeks? Following is a list:
Great Ocean Road trip up as far as the 12 apostles, if theres a group rent a car, if not just do through a tour guide, that should kill a few days
the closest beach to the city is st. kilda beach which the number 16 tram takes you to, not a big fan of it though, would prefer sandringham beach, bit further though, you need to get a train from flinders st station
    Climb the Eureka Tower
If your a fan of neighbours there is neighbours nite in the elephant and wheelbarrow in saint kilda
take in the night markets on wednesday nite/south melbourne markets on sunday
take a walk around the docklands
get a train to dandedong and have a trek up the ranges
nice walks through around albert park and the botanical gardens, and along southbank promenade
for nitelfie theres a good mix of the suburbs - st. kilda, carlton, brunswick, along with chapel street and the city, and not to mention the casino!
anything else feel free to ask
    enjoy

I'm in Sydney at the momant, but was in Melbourne for around 3 & a half weeks before that. Out of the 2 cities Melbourne is much better IMO.

There are a couple of places in the kimberleys and around broome which are devoid of people and during May and June are complete paradise.

Lakes entrance and philip island in victoria are pretty spectacular but Perth and its surrounds are probably my number 1.

I agree 100%, spent 6 months in sydney and a year in melbourne, melbourne the best by a mile IMO, all a matter of opinion though, know people who thought the complete opposite

The Barossa Vally in South Australia is a beautiful place to go If you like your wines and are into a bit of heritage, it is fantastic. Mile after mile of vines with cellar doors and wineries on every road. Beautiful scenery and nice people. Not everyones cup of tea, I know but worth a visit for those travelling through SA. Kangaroo Island a nice spot as well.

Lady Elliot Island off the coast of Bundaberg... I had the pleasure of living and working on the island for six months, good times!

Most liked place for me was Lennox head just after Byron Bay,a beautiful place and as easy going as one would want.
I used to get down every 3rd weekend or so and pitch up tent sit out watch the stars :).
But i loved living on the Goldcoast for 2 years, central to the Qld and NSW border and not too far from Sunshine coast, mmm roll on next year!

Town of 1770 in Queensland was my favorite place. So small and quiet but with just a few tourists around. Super friendly locals - they always pick up hitchhikers cause there's no buses or taxis to get around.
