Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I got that antimalware doctor virus recently.
Ran AVG and it reports ok.

But still every now and again rogue internet windows open when i dont touch anything.

    Any idea's?

What is the best way to stop viruses getting on a computer?
I've never had nor dont want antivirus on my computer.

They seem like a tremendous waste of resources.
I still cant understand how that antimalware virus got on. It came from an infected wlan/router/ip range i think
Its only my second virus ever, after sasser years ago

    Thanks
    John

I would hazard a guess you got the Virus because you dont have any AntiVirus installed. Just throwing it out there.

Burn an AVG LiveCD and try that

An antivirus program basically scans for named/known virus files, blocks it from operating and alerts the user to take an action such as delete/quarantine etc..

An anti-virus is essential if your on the internet these days as a first line of defence against those lovely people who wants to fudge up your pc for the laugh or steal your identity or bank details...

No, the first line of defence is oneself :)

personally I think avast is the best free antivirus out there. It's lightweight and customisable so you can adjust it to only scan the protocols you use.

If you're dead set against installing AV then I think the you could really improve your security by installing the noscript addon (firefox only)
Running dodgey scripts is the most common way of contracting nasty stuff. Noscript allows you to control who you trust rather than running every script your browser encounters indiscriminately.

Using both together gives a very high level of security for only a tiny cost to cpu and memory.
