Hey guys, I recently told a friend that I'd help him pick a computer for his house. His laptop recently broke and he wants a home desktop now for the family, and for personal use.

    Budget? Under 900€

I saw this in soundstore today, and I'm wondering - anything wrong with the specs?

It's €629.95 with a 20" LCD monitor with keyboard and mouse.

I'm knowledgeable enough regarding computers, etc. but I haven't been keeping up with the latest hardware so I don't know about the GPU or the CPU in that desktop lol

    Should be grand yeah?

    Cheers:pac:

if you can spend upto €900, you could put an absolute beast together.

if you budget €130 for a 1080p 22" monitor, head on to the budget gaming sticky and find something for around the 500 euro mark. it'll run circles around that COMPAQ.

    mice/keyboards can be got cheaply.

is the OS salvagable from the laptop?

On the other hand, if you're looking to just buy a pre-built OEM PC, you could always find it cheaper from the UK.

    PC:
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/200544 - £615.80 (Convert to Euro - live rates)

Monitor (I've been eyeballing this one for myself lately):
    http://www.ebuyer.com/product/194238 - £168.39 (Convert to Euro - live rates)

    Total:
£784.19 (Convert to Euro - live rates)

Preferably I'd build the unit myself and pick what parts I want because I can plan ahead that way, especially if I know what the exact motherboard and PSU models are. Those OEM models leave out that sort of information from the specs, it's usually where they skim their costs.

If you're willing to build it yourself €900 goes a very long way...

€800 shipped and including a decent 22" monitor, not including OS:
