Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey guys.

I'm doing some work for a jeweler by photographing some of their merchandise for a website they're setting up.

I'm using a Fuji FinePix S9500 and have access to one of these laddies

I'm working with all silver (rings, pendants and earrings)

I have access to all sorts of household lamps and bulbs as well as an outdoor spotlight :P

Question is, what would be the best way of getting a good, shadowless, diffused image which I can present to the jeweller?

Also, he wants the background as just plain uniform white; I assume I'll just put down a white sheet over the blue base. Anything I should be aware of, or any do's and don'ts that you can think of?

    Cheers.

    Hi redhairguy,
I did a bit of a fix up for a person I met and below is the before and after from what I did in photoshop, she had used a fuji 5600 with the onboard flash. I got every picture and used levels to get them all looking nearly the same.

You might consider using placing your jewellery using a lightbox. Here is a cheap homemade setup with an example of what you want to do. Would be interesting to do....

I am using this as advised by Borderfox in the past. You can get any older poster as the background and it will create seamless curve at the back. Just check if you are not getting reflections in the frame.
Try to avoid using flash, the permanent light is much easier to control. Keep white balance on manual, so you can unify your processing.
Don't forget to compensate your exposure (into positive EV values), because most of the picture will be white and your images would be underexposed.
Use tripod, if you have one. Even self-timer could be handy.

To pose the items, get something transparent (glass, plexi), possibly without embossing or facets. If you could get one of the plexi shoe stands (for shop windows), that would be handy.

Enjoy, do everything in the same way so the processing will be easy and don't forget to show us your setup and results ;)
